About Stephanie Boyd Physiotherapy & Massage

Stephanie has been working in the therapies industry for 10 years. She began with a degree in Chinese Medicine and then went on to master different types of remedial and energy balancing massage styles. In 2012 she qualified as a physiotherapist and spent several years gaining valuable experience in the NHS. She now works in private practice and specializes in musculoskeletal physiotherapy. Stephanie's particular interest is working holistically with clients and drawing on her knowledge of different medical systems and bodywork techniques to really help people address not just the symptoms they are experiencing but also the underlying causes. A course of physiotherapy with Stephanie may be different to what you have experienced before. Your session will be very hands-on and you can expect to engage in a package of treatment combining manual therapy for the affected joints and soft tissues with things such as targeted exercises, self release techniques, education to aid recovery, advice about orthotics/ ergonomic equipment, postural education and re-alignment work. She also can help with rehabilitating the deep core and pelvic floor muscles which is particularly helpful to post-natal women. In addition to her physiotherapy work, she has developed specialist massage treatments for cyclists, runners and office workers. As with all her treatments they are bespoke and combine the most effective bodywork techniques to produce the best results for you! Most recently Stephanie has completed training in canine massage, so now your furry friends can be booked for massage treatments to help with their aches and pains too!

Physiotherapy 1hour session (1 hour)

Physiotherapy 1hour session - Stephanie Boyd Physiotherapy & Massage

Your physiotherapy assessment starts with a chat so that I can get more information to form a picture of the condition that is troubling you, how it impacts on your life and what your rehabilitation goals are.

Next I will perform a physical examination with the aim of identifying the structure/s that are causing the problem.

Once we know what the problems are the treatment will commence. I combine skilled manual therapy during your session at the clinic with specific remedial excercises for you to do between sessions.

The aim of physiotherapy is to not only help you feel better during your course of treatment but also to equip you with strategies you can use to help prevent relapse and also to remedy yourself in the event of a flare up in the future or if you have a chronic condition that cannot be fully resolved.

The types of manual therapy you may experience in a physio session include: massage, joint mobilisations, fascial release, visceral mobilisation, scar massage, PNF stretching and dynamic joint releases. A course of treatment is usually required to work towards your rehabilitation goals.

Abdominal Massage & Visceral Manipulation

Abdominal Massage & Visceral Manipulation - Stephanie Boyd Physiotherapy & Massage

This treatment first uses gentle fascial release and visceral mobilisation to free up abdominal and pelvic adhesions that may be affecting your digestive function. Then deep kneading and sweeping massage is used over the colon area of abdomen to assist with breakdown of congested faecal matter and to stimulate peristalsis of the large intestine. This treatment is great for people with sluggish digestion and abdominal problems such as IBS. Visceral mobilisation is also suitable for addressing adhesions from abdominal surgical scars. You can complete the session in 30 minutes or if you prefer opt for a longer 45min or 60 min session. Usually a short course is reccomended of 4 sessions on a fortnightly basis. You will also be given information on homework self massage you can do to keep up the effects and self care in the longer term. *Please be aware that this treatment is not suitable for people with IUD’s, inflammatory bowel problems, hernias, intestinal masses, severe constipation that has not responded to enemas or strong laxatives and cannot be performed at any time during pregnancy. If you are unsure, please do contact me for advice.

Pregnancy Massage

Pregnancy Massage - Stephanie Boyd Physiotherapy & Massage

Pregnancy massage is a great way to relieve the tension from your changing body. It is particularly helpful after 20 weeks although can be performed any time after your first trimester. Pregnancy massage also can help manage pelvic girdle pain if you have been experiencing that. Pregnancy massage is usually performed in side lying and long sitting, but if you would prefer to lay face down whilst I massage the back of your body during the treatment I do also have a special pregnancy massage cushion with a bump hole that will allow this.

Holistic Massage

Holistic Massage - Stephanie Boyd Physiotherapy & Massage

If you want a slower and softer massage with rebalancing energy work, pulsing movements, scalp massage and releasing stretches then a holistic massage would be ideal. It aims to leave you feeling better inside and out. This type of treatment can be combined with deep tissue/ remedial massage also for total rejuvenation.

Mummy MOT (R) Assessment

Mummy MOT (R) Assessment - Stephanie Boyd Physiotherapy & MassageMummy MOT (R) Assessment - Stephanie Boyd Physiotherapy & Massage

A Mummy MOT (R) post-natal assessment is performed with the aim of preventing the development of long-term childbirth-related issues.

During pregnancy, labour and birth, a woman’s body undergoes significant changes and in many cases, trauma.

You may experience changes to your posture,  pelvic floor function and abdominal strength, which may ultimately lead to problems such as pelvic girdle pain, diastasis recti (tummy gap) and even prolapse and/ or varying degrees of incontinence.

In the UK, unfortunately, routine post-natal physiotherapy is very limited. Some women return to exercise and activities after giving birth, ignoring the issues they are experiencing, often this makes them worse or they develop other problems as a result.

Mummy MOT ® has been created to help you  in your journey to postnatal recovery. It achieves this by helping you to identify and understand any current or potential issues you may have and then assists you in rehabilitating safely and appropriately.  This helps reduce the likelihood of long-term problems developing.

Mummy MOT ®  is undertaken by a physiotherapist with specialist postnatal training.   Mummy MOT ® can be carried out from 6 weeks after birth but even if you are years after birth it is never too late to address postnatal complaints or problems.

The Mummy MOT Assessment Session takes 1 hour and costs £90

Follow up sessions are reccomended to progress your exercise program every 3 weeks up to 12 weeks after your assessment.  These are usually 30mins (£45) or 45 mins (£55)

Biography:
I’m Stephanie and my speciality is holistic bodywork. My career began nine years ago when I graduated as a Chinese medicine practitioner. I then went on to train in a number of massage disciplines and physiotherapy. During my career I have been fortunate enough to work in hospitals and private clinics in both the UK and China so was able to learn and develop my skills whilst working alongside some very inspirational people. My time in China was particularly influential on my integrated approach to assessing and treating musculoskeletal problems. By bringing together eastern medicine and physiotherapy it is possible to aid the recovery of old and new musculoskeletal problems.
