About Impact Sports Injury Consultation Rehabilitation

mpact is a sports injury practice dedicated to the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of sports injuries and musculoskeletal problems. I currently consult with local Football Clubs and have worked with elite tennis players. However, even though I have had experience dealing with elite athletes, I take the same dynamic approach to benefit all individuals including recreational athletes and the non-exercising individual. Hence I offer a professional and friendly service which is focused on meeting the needs of the individual.

Whether it is a work related or postural problem, a sports injury or just a painful joint or limb, I provide personalised care and treatment for your recovery. I also offer preventative training advice and rehabilitative exercises to minimise risk of recurrence.

Each session lasts 30 minutes and will involve a comprehensive assessment followed by a personalised treatment plan and the appropriate treatment. This could be a combination of mobilisations and manual therapy along with soft tissue work, exercise and rehabilitation:

  • Injury assessment and rehabilitation
  • Musculoskeletal screening
  • Injury prevention education and training
  • Exercise and sport specific training
  • Postural assessment Massage

ports injuries are commonly caused by overuse, direct impact, or the application of force that is greater than the body part can structurally withstand.

An injury that occurs as a direct result of some sudden event, such as a sprained knee caused by twisting awkwardly, is known as an acute injury. In contrast, an injury that is caused by overusing the same muscle group or joints is known as a chronic injury.

Whether your sports injury is acute or chronic, if pain persists, you should seek a specialists opinion as your injury may be more severe than you think. For example, what seems like an ankle sprain may actually be a bone fracture.

There are hundreds of different types of sports injuries however, certain body parts tend to be more prone to damage than others. Poor fitness, bad technique and structural abnormalities also contribute to the development of sports injuries. Once an injury occurs, it is better to treat it as soon as possible as recovery time is reduced dramatically.

Further, getting the correct initial diagnosis and treatment can allow for the optimal continuation of your chosen activity level. Not only that, doing the correct post injury exercises can reduce the risk of re-injury.

Some of the more common sports injuries include:

  • Ankle Sprain
  • Achilles Tendonitis
  • Shoulder Injury
  • Groin Strain
  • Hamstring Strain
  • Knee Joint Injury
  • Back Injury
  • Tennis/Golf Elbow
  • Shin Splints
  • AC Joint Dislocation

Mrs Anicka Fairhurst

Job Title:
  Practice Therapist
Acupuncture, Massage Therapy, Physical Therapy, Sport and Exercise Science, Sports Medicine

I am a qualified Sports Rehabilitator and studied BSc (Hons) Sports Rehabilitation at Salford University. Since qualifying I have worked for 3 seasons at Woodley Sports Football Club, a semi professional club. I mainly focused on the youth team but also was involved with their first and reserve teams. Alongside this, I was also the physio for the Cheshire under 18s football team and worked for Knutsford Football Club.

Currently, alongside Impact Sports Injury Clinic I also work as a personal trainer for David Lloyd Leisure in Cheadle. This has given me the experience of using gym equipment to facilitate the rehabilitation of inury and to assist in the prevention of re-injury. Further, I am qualified in two Les Mills programmes; Body Pump and Body Combat. This enables me to give precise advise on the ability of carrying an injury during classes. I am also qualified to teach JUKARI Fit to Flex, a dynamic flexibilty class organised with Reebok and Cirque Du Soleil.

I understand how frustrating it is when you are injured and feel like you have to change or stop your routine. This may not be the case. You may be able to carry on with the activities you enjoy even whilst being injured. Or at the very least be able to adapt your routine to fit in with your tailored recovery process. My experience has enabled me to understand this frustration and there is nothing worse than thinking you have to avoid certain activities.

I am a full graduate member of the following affiliated governing bodies:

  • BASRat
  • SMA
  • REPs Level 3

Certified qualifications to teach:

  • Body Pump
  • Body Combat
  • Keiser Cycling (Spin)
  • JUKARI Fit to Flex
