Physiotherapist Consultation

1:1 Hydrotherapy treatment

This involves direct assessment and treatment from a specially trained qualified physiotherapist within the hydrotherapy pool. The initial assessment is 1 hour with follow up treatments lasting 30 minutes. The frequency of the sessions is flexible depending on your specific needs and goals.

Group Hydrotherapy Sessions

The group runs on a Tuesday and Thursday evening with a maximum of 8 people in the pool at one time. You will have your own exercise programme designed for you by us. It is important to review this regularly within a 1:1 session so we can find out how youre getting on.

‘Water relaxation therapy’

This 1:1 treatment session is based on the principle of WATSU. It is gentle relaxation carried out in water combining the elements of massage, movement and stretching. You are continuously supported providing a deeply relaxing treatment with many therapeutic benefits. The effects include gentle stretching, relaxation of muscles, easing of joint stiffness and relieving of stress or tension. This treatment is carried out by a specially trained physiotherapist and will last 40 minutes.

Mr CHRIS COWLEY

Job Title:
  Practice Director
Specialisations:
  Physical Therapy, Physiotherapy
Languages:
  English
Biography:

Im Chris and Im a Bristol based, highly experienced Senior Physiotherapist. Im registered with the Health Professions Council and am a member of The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy. My full time job is working for the NHS as a Senior Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist. I divide my time between this and my role as one of the Directors and founding members of Healthy Hydrotherapy.

I graduated with honors from Nottingham University in 2003 with a degree in Physiotherapy. As a Junior Physio I worked in all specialities, seeing a wide range of patients and gaining invaluable experience in all aspects of Physiotherapy. This has enabled me to successfully treat patients in the hydrotherapy pool with a diversity of problems.

After moving to Bristol, I specialised in musculoskeletal Physiotherapy. I enjoy the challenge of giving the best Physio service I can by learning from and teaching others. My interest and experience in a wide range of sports is crucial in providing high level rehabilitation and aiding swift return to competition following injury. I work directly with Orthopaedic Surgeons in a specialist clinic for patients with exercise related pain. We take referrals from NHS and military sources across the Southwest.

I have spent over six years helping to run private evening Hydrotherapy exercise groups. This has allowed me to complete the Foundation Course in WATSU and I regularly give Water Relaxation Therapy. These groups however are not accessible to all and this is where Healthy Hydrotherapy fits in.

Outside of work I enjoy a busy, active life with lots of hobbies. You can usually find me playing football, cricket, golf, cycling or climbing up The Avon Gorge. I really love a challenge and this drive has led to completion of Oxfams 62 mile Trailwalker race, The Coast to Coast Walk, half marathons and triathlons. Over the past twelve years I have enjoyed travelling and exploring the world. Ive volunteered for conservation projects in Costa Rica, Tanzania, Namibia, Kenya and New York and worked as a lifeguard in Maryland, USA. Ive also travelled extensively in Europe, Asia, Australasia, North, South and Central America.

These varied experiences and interests perfectly equip me for my role with Healthy Hydrotherapy.

Biography:

Im Ali and Im a fully qualified Chartered Senior Physiotherapist. I am registered with The Health Professions Council (HPC) and am a member of The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.

Ever since I remember Ive wanted to be a Physio. I achieved my dream in 2002, graduating with a BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy from Nottingham University. I spent the first few years working in Oxford, gaining experience in many different areas of healthcare. Gradually I realised my passion lay in musculoskeletal problems and found Hydrotherapy was a brilliant form of treatment.

Over the last ten years I have gained invaluable experience treating hundreds of patients in warm water for all sorts of problems. I completed my Post-Graduate qualification in Hydrotherapy and since then have enjoyed teaching others about this treatment. I am a member of The Aquatic Association of Physiotherapy which is a special interest group for Physios with a passion for Hydrotherapy. Amongst other things, I have gained my foundation qualification in WATSU, enabling me to treat patients with water relxation therapy. For over six years I have helped run weekly evening Hydrotherapy exercise groups for patients with arthritis. My day time job is working with a very dynamic team of Physios in a large acute hospital in Bristol. I see a wide range of patients with various musculoskeletal problems.

When Im not at work, you can find me doing a million other things! I love being outside going for long walks, pottering about in our garden or weekends away camping. Not to mention the ongoing project of doing up our house! Exercise rates very highly in my week. I love the feeling of keeping fit and find a long run or swim to be extremely relaxing. Im always up for a challenge resulting in a few half marathons, triathlons, The Coast to Coast Walk and Tough Guy...twice!

My other passion is travelling. After graduating, I was desperate to see the world. I flew to the USA where I worked in Texas for Camp America, then travelled independently by Greyhound Bus around the country. This was a big challenge for me and boosted my confidence to travel. Over the last few years I have continued to see the world...Australia, New Zealand, South America and more recently working in Africa.

But now my focus is on challenges closer to home. I love my job and am constantly striving to be the best Physio I can. Through personal and professional experiences I know theres more I can offer. And so Healthy Hydrotherapy was born...!
