About Physiofit

Physiofit is run by Chartered Physiotherapist, Niamh Egan, BSc, MSc, MISCP. Niamh has a wealth of experience in her field and her qualifications include a first class honours degree in Physiotherapy and a MSc in Sport and Exercise Medicine from Trinity College Dublin. She has recently returned from Perth, Australia after completing a prestigious post graduate program in Orthopaedic Manual Therapy at Curtin University. Here Niamh worked with world renowned leading clinical specialists - learning the most up to date physiotherapy techniques, placing her at the very top of her field.

Niamh specialises in all musculoskeletal conditions/injuries and her treatments are very much hands on. She places a heavy emphasis on patient education, helping to explain away the many myths concerning common injuries and pain conditions”. Her experience has seen her work with TCD's rugby and rowing teams, as well as club and inter-county GAA teams in Kildare and Tipperary.

Physiofit provide much more than just the treatment of sports injuries and rehabilitation and believe in making physiotherapy accessible to everyone.

They proudly offers their patients the following physiotherapy services in addition to treating sports injuries:

Women’s Health

As a female physiotherapist, Niamh is proud to offer women private, discreet and professional physiotherapy services for females who experience stress incontinency, over active bladder, prolapse, pre- and post-natal issues, pregnancy-related musculoskeletal issues and osteoporosis.

Niamh was fortunate to work with leading world renowned expert’s in the area of migraine, cervico-genic headaches and whiplash in Australia. This is an area that has been of particular personal and professional interest to Niamh for many years and she is enthusiastic to help those who suffer. She stresses that “Although migraine can be quite debilitating, there are new evidence based physiotherapy treatments that can really help. I urge you to not suffer in silence and contact Physiofit for advice”.

Having gained invaluable experience at Aut Even Orthopaedic Hospital in Kilkenny, Niamh is experienced in working with people who suffer with arthritic knee and hip pain. “My orthopaedic experience enables me to know when patients do or do not need surgery and I really enjoy helping patients to recover after knee and hip surgeries, especially after Total Hip and Knee Replacements”. At Physiofit, the aim is to fully rehabilitate patients using specialised rehabilitation equipment so that patients return to a pre-operative state as soon as possible.

Care of the Elderly

With her convivial, calm and encouraging manner, it is not surprising that Niamh really excels when dealing with elderly patients.  At Physiofit, Niamh helps people who fall frequently and suffer with mobility issues associated with aging. Her confidence building treatment sessions can really improve the quality of life of older people. Niamh understands that it might not always be possible for people to travel to physiotherapy appointments, therefore Physiofit offer Physio at Home bringing physiotherapy services to you, in the comfort of your own home.

Chronic Lower Back Pain

There has been fascinating new research in the area of Chronic pain and the most recent of which suggests the new physiotherapy approaches can be instrumental in helping patients who are suffering with long standing, debilitating pain, especially people who feel that their problems are simply chronic and untreatable should seek physiotherapy help at Physiofit.

Yoga & Pilates

Featuring a spacious, tastefully decorated, state-of-the-art studio, Physiofit offers yoga and Pilates classes in a serene, calming environment.

Yoga is the union of mind and body and Pilates is a method of improving spinal alignment and core stability.

Niamh's journey of teaching Pilates began with the Australian Physiotherapy & Pilates Institute (APPI) based in London. She finds Pilates particularly beneficial to people who suffer with spinal pain. The benefits of Pilates are well-documented and Niamh uses them routinely with patients.

She travelled to India, to study Yoga at its source and here she immersed herself in a strict yogic lifestyle at a traditional ashram.  She learned asanas (exercises), pranayama (breathing techniques) and yogic philosophy. She gained an internationally recognised Yoga Teacher Training qualification that is accredited by the International Yoga Alliance. Niamh has just returned from home from a second stay in India, where she completed studies in Advanced Yoga Teacher Training.

“My philosophy is that a combination of yoga and Pilates works best,” Niamh says.

“I apply my physiotherapy background to modern Pilates methods, yogic philosophies and mindfulness/meditation to in order to restore physical and emotional wellbeing.

My unique method has curative and preventative benefits for the body. These include increased flexibility and muscle strength, increased energy levels and vitality, improved athletic performance, empowerment and improved body awareness and protection from injury and early degeneration”.

This successful combination saw her last year working with Tipperary’s senior hurlers and various club hurling teams in Tipperary and Limerick. Niamh also imparts her skills to equestrian athletes, given her own keen interest in show jumping.
