Just completed 3 sessions for lower back pain & stiffness, was in the hands of ... May I say .... A very young but extremely professional guy Enda. From the moment I walked in the door I knew I was in good hands his way of explaining all the different things that can cause back pain was an eye-opener. I received laser treatment....Decompression treatment plus hands on physiotherapy plus was given certain stretches & movements to do at home. I can honestly say... Hand on heart, from the first session, I could feel a difference and freedom of movement in my lower back that I haven't felt in a long long time. Robert graduated in 2009  with an hons degree from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and has a previous hons degree in Sports Science and Health from Dublin City University. Robert has treated a wide variety of patient types and has worked in a number of different settings including acute hospital, rehabilitation, aged care and private practice. Robert has been working in private practice since 2009, he also spent 2 years working in the National Rehab Hospital in Dun Laoghaire where he was involved in the brain injury, spinal injury and amputee programmes. Robert also spent 6 months working in a large aged care facility in Australia. Robert treats all types of patients but specialises in sports injuries and other musculoskeletal issues. Robert has a background in tennis. He has played since he was 6 years old and represented his school, province and country as a junior. He has also been involved with the junior national squad as a coach and physical trainer.

Only chartered physiotherapists are employed to treat patients at the clinic. Physiotherapy services provided at the clinic include, corporate services onsite for large companies including musculoskeletal screening, health, posture correction and exercise advice and assessment of workplace ergonomics, treatments and advice for sportspersons and Pilates classes. Initial consultation free, thorough collaborative chat and felt very at ease throughout. Had deep tissue laser therapy for post fusion surgery. Everything explained in terms I understood and even insightful. Scheduled plan (package deal of 6 sessions was very affordable comparing on google Dublin) flexible appointments & app: reminders. Excellent outcome for me (decrease in pain, mobility loosening). Have other longstanding issues that would benefit from John's input.John kinda gives you insight into the psychology/physical/pain perception /science of injury/issues (also with links) just helps to understand my own history with back problems. I felt very comfortable, confident and motivated as the treatment went on. He genuinely was interested in my well-being, encouraging me. I never felt rushed. He's funny and caring at the same time. I most definitely will go back with a separate issue.

Put simply, the Functional Movement Screen (FMS) is a ranking and grading system that documents movement patterns that are key to normal function. By screening these patterns, the FMS readily identifies functional limitations and asymmetries. These are issues that can reduce the effects of functional training and physical conditioning and distort body awareness. “We now use this program (Functional Movement System) with every player as a pretest and evaluation tool before we even begin to train them. This individualizes our training as we can now focus more on improving weaknesses, imbalances and asymmetries in an effort to improve functional movement patterns. Back Pain  
Dry Needling involves multiple advances of a filament needle into the muscle in the region of a “Trigger Point’. The aim of Dry Needling is to achieve a local twitch response to release muscle tension and pain. Dry needling is an effective treatment for chronic pain of neuropathic origin with very few side effects. This technique is unequaled in finding and eliminating neuromuscular dysfunction that leads to pain and functional deficits. The needle used is very thin and most subjects do not even feel it penetrate the skin. A healthy muscle feels very little discomfort with insertion of this needle. However if the muscle is sensitive and shortened or has active trigger points within it, the subject will feel a sensation like a muscle cramp -‘the twitch response’. The patient also may feel a reproduction of “their” pain which is a helpful diagnostic indicator for the practitioner attempting to diagnose the cause of the patients symptoms. Patients soon learn to recognize and even welcome this sensation as it results in deactivating the trigger point, reducing pain and restoring normal length function to the involved muscle.

I recently attended Portobello Physiotherapy Clinic on the recommendation with a shoulder injury and could not be happier with my results. My physio, Dave O'Connell, has proved excellent taking me through each step of my recovery in a caring and professional manner. I particularly liked the clear and concise online exercise programme he set out for me after each session to enable me to continue my programme at home. Highly recommended.

This is by far the best clinic of any kind I have been to in Ireland. Had vertigo and in one session almost gone. Mark told me to cancel if I felt better before the next app. But the fact that he wasn't pushing for me to come back made my decision easier to go back just to be sure I was good. Would highly recommend this clinic. Excellent.
