Dr Helen Walker

Biography:
Helen is a titled Sports Physiotherapist with over 20 years experience in the treatment of sports injuries. Helen began her physiotherapy career in Sydney, gaining a broad- based knowledge of sports physiotherapy working with athletes in Rugby League and Union, Basketball, Netball, Baseball and Swimming, as well as many other sports. She completed her post-graduate Sports Physiotherapy qualification in 1997 at the University of Sydney, and became a titled Sports Physiotherapist in 1999. Since moving to Melbourne, Helen has worked extensively with competitive swimmers, being a provider to the VIS swiming program and Swimming Australia for over 10 years. Career highlights include being physiotherapist to the Australian Swim Team at Montreal World Championships (2005), Melbourne Commonwealth Games (2006) and FINA Open Water World Cup Portugal (2014). Whilst primarily a clinician, Helen has demonstrated her commitment to further education and research by completing her PhD at the University of Melbourne (2008) investigating risk factors for shoulder pain in competitive swimmers. She is currently a physiotherapy provider for the IMPACT knee osteoarthritis study (Uni Melbourne), and an advisor for shoulder research at Monash University and the Swimming Victoria Injury Prevention Task force (2014). Helen has also developed a musculoskeletal screening protocol for apprentice jockeys, which is a new field in physiotherapy. Currently, Helen consults privately in rooms and to Melbourne Vicentre Swimming club, Racing Victoria Apprentice Jockey program, Exercise Research Australia Allied Health Assistant course (lecturer) and Swimming Victoria.

Mr Andrew Cameron

Biography:
Andrew is a physiotherapist with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy from the University of Melbourne (2011). Since graduating, Andrew has worked both in private practice and aged care. Andrew has gained diverse sports injury experience as physiotherapist consulting to the AFL umpires, Melbourne Vicentre Swim Club at the National Open Swim championships (2013) and National Age Swim championships (2014). Recently, Andrew travelled to the Australian Institute of sport as team physiotherapist to the Swimming Victoria Target VIS squad. Andrew also conducts musculoskeletal screening for competitive swimmers, as well as apprentice jockeys through the Racing Victoria Apprentice Jockey program. Andrew has added musculoskeletal dry needling (2013) and Real Time Ultrasound biofeedback/imaging (2014) to his physiotherapy skills, having recently completed these courses. Andrew has 10 years of national level swimming experience, including a bronze medal at the 2012 Australian Short Course championships. Accordingly, he brings to the practice an extensive knowledge of swimming biomechanics, technique and training methods. He has a strong passion for working with, and treating, athletes and he has commenced further studies at La Trobe University where he is studying for a Masters in Sports Physiotherapy.
