Osteopath Consultation

What can I expect on my first visit to an osteopath?

A: The osteopath will compile a full case history of symptoms and lifestyle. a physical assessment will then take place to help achieve a diagnosis. You will usually be asked to remove some clothing near the area of the body to be examined. Osteopaths are trained to examine areas of the body using a highly-developed palpation, to determine conditions and identify areas of restriction. Osteopathy is a package of care that includes skilled mobilising and manipulative techniques, reinforced by guidance on diet and exercise. The osteopath will discuss with you the most appropriate treatment plan, estimating the likely number of sessions needed to treat your condition effectively. If the osteopath thinks that your condition is unlikely to respond to treatment, you will be advised about how to seek further investigation.

However, many modern Western practitioners find that acupuncture can be understood in scientific terms. Many hospitals today offer acupuncture to their patients and the British Medical Acupuncture Society has over 2500 members. Biography:

Adam R. Whatley is a registered and licenced Osteopath (M.Ost) practising out of the Solihulll, Henley In Arden Warwickshire and Harborne Birmingham areas who specialises in the area of neuro-musculoskeletal practice and is a member of the Osteopathic Sports Care Association (OSCA). He has also completed his Master’s degree in the treatment and management of advanced musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction, and currently seeking further practice in the field of Sports Medicine and Performance Science. He has an established background working with a wide variety of clients/patients, including athletes (performance and clinical treatment/management), and has established connections with specialists in the Warwickshire area. In addition, he is currently working with and has his own team of private GP’s and spinal surgeons from the Warwickshire region, where Adam takes care of the musculoskeletal services and carry out Acupuncture. Adam has a particular interest in Clinical Neuroscience (Specialising in Pain Neurophysiology and Human Motor Control).

Mr Adam Whatley currently has clinics operating out of North Warwickshire and South Birmingham, in addition to clinical exercise rehabilitation and performance services in Solihull, with Urban Body Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, where he sees a wide range of varied private clients and athletes from varied locations. Working from past experiences in the clinical setting, Adam has gained a huge interest in the area/s of sports medicine & performance, advanced human kinematics and clinical neurology, in addition to neuromusculoskeletal rehabilitation. Within his area of clinical practice, he works in the diagnosis and treatment (manual and physical therapy) of neuromusculoskeletal conditions. In which he combines the areas of neuromusculokeletal dysfunction and clinical medicine, sports performance and human movement.

Adam has a comprehensive established background in the combined areas of theory based clinical medicine and dysfunction, alongside patient interaction, understanding and practical management. It is Adam's aim to better understand the underlying mechanisms for motor control and the way in which the central nervous system compensates for deficits in varied motor tasks including coordination, balance and gait. I have an interest in the development of clinical testing and new rehabilitation for patients with dysfunction and gathering new therapeutic approaches to enhance neuromuscular performance.

The experience and background has been previously received working in the region of performance training and in the clinical setting, in addition to completing his Master’s degree in the region of advanced musculoskeletal practice. After a fantastic background in professional exercise and working with people with a variety of conditions, Adam found a huge interest in athletic performance and clinical neurology. He studied Osteopathy (Med), out of Oxford where he was trained to be a Primary Care Practitioner in the field of Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine. This provided him with the opportunity to help others, and further enhance his background in dysfunction.

During Adam’s time studying out of Oxford, he has been regularly seeing patients in private practice, giving almost 10 years’ experience treating and working with patients in the clinical setting. To date, Adam has worked specifically in sports rehabilitation - neuromusculoskeletal diagnosis and management, alongside performance enhancement. As a trained osteopath he came from a different background from physiotherapist, whereby, yes he completed advanced biomechanics and rehabilitation, but also trained in advanced spinal manual therapy and clinical medicine. His study in neurophysiology is based on neuropsychological components which relate or maintain chronic pain, which can ultimately effect cerebral mapping in the brain and affect motor firing patterns, therefore affecting performance.

Adam’s background has consisted heavily in the Healthcare and Fitness industries. Prior to this he also holds an extensive military background with a report of Exemplary.  Following this, Adam went on to become a very successful performance coach/trainer and then progressing onto becoming the Personal Training Manager within the highly regarded company of Fitness Agents carrying out such roles as PT recruitment, PT mentoring and general PT management and promotion of self-management and development. Adam’s background in exercise physiology, orthopaedic medicine, clinical neuroscience and musculoskeletal practice with patients experiencing a variety of neuro-musculoskeletal conditions makes him ideally placed to begin on-going future studies.
