About Marple Cottage Surgery

Marple Cottage Surgery provides general care medical services to patients in the Marple area. General clinics are provided for adults and children. The centre is open Monday through Friday with some Saturday hours. Treatments include screening and keeping well clinics, diagnostic services, treatment of conditions, vaccinations, clinics and simple surgical procedures as well as antenatal services. The staff consists of four medical doctors along with a highly trained nursing and midwife staff. Registration, appointments and repeated prescriptions can be completed online.

Dr Maher Al-Ausi

Biography:

MB ChB MRCS PGDIP MRCGP DFSRH Dr Al-Ausi trained at Manchester University before undertaking surgical training in London and Bristol. When his sons were born he switched to General Practice to spend more time with his family, which brought him back to the Stockport area. He was a registrar at Marple Cottage Surgery in 2010 before becoming a partner when Dr Wells retired in 2013. With his surgical background in mind he has taken over the Vasectomy Service in Stockport, and has an interest in Family Planning. Furthermore, he continues to practise minor surgery procedures. Otherwise his main responsibility is leading the clinical development at Marple Cottage. Dr Al-Ausi enjoys cycling and still rides his bike to work as often as he can.

Dr Andrew Johnson

Biography:

 BSc MB Chb MRCGP Dr Johnson trained in Stockport followed by 18 months in the sunshine of Western Australia where the first of his two daughters was born. On returning to the UK he joined Marple Cottage Surgery, and became a Partner in 1999. He is interested in chronic diseases such as hypertension (blood pressure), asthma and heart disease. He also performs minor surgery procedures. Having played competitive sport all his life Dr Johnson has a major interest in musculoskeletal (bone and joints) medicine, from sports injuries and prevention of these to arthritis. He is also currently Doctor to the Manchester City FC Academy.

Dr Catherine Hatton

MB ChB Dr Hatton trained at Dundee Medical School and then ventured further south to hold hospital jobs in various specialities, but particularly in Orthopaedics and A&E. After working in Trauma and Orthopaedics for three years, followed by a further two years in A&E Dr Hatton moved to the Manchester area to become a GP. As part of the necessary GP training she worked at Marple Cottage Surgery for 6months, and decided to return in January 2006 to take on a (near) full-time post with the practice. Clinical interests include acupuncture, sexual health and minor injury/surgery.

Dr Clare Lamont

Dr Lamont trained at Manchester University and qualified in 2008. She spent eight weeks working in a cottage hospital in Zambia during her final year. She spent two years in Oldham including posts in Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Rheumatology and Emergency Medicine. She settled in Stockport to undertake GP training; completing posts in Elderly Medicine, Paediatrics, ENT, and Orthopaedics. Dr Lamont has been part of the surgery for over a year, during which time she completed the final part of her GP training. She has her GP Diploma in Obstetrics & Gynaecology. Her clinical interests include women's health, elderly medicine and palliative care.

Dr Deborah Ashley

After completing posts in Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Rheumatology & Rehabilitation and General Medicine in order to become a GP, she worked locally in Stockport. Dr Ashley has also worked as a medical officer in Cheshire providing contraception and counselling services. In September 2007 Dr Ashley joined Marple Cottage Surgery working part time two days a week. Her clinical interests include Women & Children's Health, Autistic Spectrum Disorders and Sexual Health & Contraception Services, including IUCD fitting.

 BA (Hons) MSc After qualifying as a RegisteredGeneral Nurse in 1989 I worked in critical care, renal medicine and in industrybefore moving into general practice in 1997. I was a Practice Nurse for 2 yearsbefore studying for an MSc at Liverpool University. Since then Ihave worked in several practices in Cheshireas a Nurse Clinician. This role involves seeing people who attend the practicewith acute medical problems and also people who have ongoing conditions forexample high blood pressure, heart problems, diabetes and COPD. I am also ableto prescribe a broad range of medicines. In my spare time I enjoy the outdoors,running and climbing, and have a little boy who keeps me busy.

I joined Marple Cottage Surgery in 2004. In 2002 I attained the Diploma in Nursing from Manchester University and spent 18 months working on the Trauma and Orthopaedic Unit at Stepping Hill Hospital. I moved to general practice because I wanted to work in an environment where health promotion is primary prevention and allows me to form strong patient relationships. I am very much enjoying my role as a practice nurse in Marple. I have an asthma diploma from the National Respiratory Training Centre and I am the asthma lead for the practice. I manage the practice INR Clinic, which is for patients who take [Treatment name removed]. I also perform a wide range of nursing services including cervical smears, health promotion and screening, children’s vaccinations and travel vaccinations.

I work with the Nursing Team as a Healthcare Assistant. This is a new type of role in general practice, which allows me to offer appointments for blood tests,blood pressure checks, including 24hr tests, spirometry, ECGs and general health screening. I am also a very busy mum with two lovely daughters!
