Growing up my passion was basketball, although I'm not the tallest at 5'9", I used my speed and leaping ability to gain an advantage over opponents. As part of the high school team we became the national champions which in turn lead us to represent Great Britain in the world school basketball championships in Pau, France. It was my love of basketball and sport that spurred my interest into the human body and into a degree in Sports Science at Liverpool John Moores University.
However soon into the degree I became aware of Prosthetics and Orthotics and left my degree early to complete a bachelors of science in this subject. I was instantly drawn to orthotics and prosthetics due to the combination of design and biomechanics creating an instant huge IMPACT on performance- Without a prosthesis a patient cannot stand, without an orthosis a patient is unable to walk.
Post graduating I specialised in orthotics. I chose orthotics as I personally feel a greater challenge due to the vast array of clients/patients I have the opportunity to see, one day I may be treating an athlete to optimise gait and the next a patient with paraplegia.
