Treatment Received: Hip Replacement
Second Total Hip replacement by Prof Waller. My first hip replacement in 2006 went with percussion, so having had one hip already replaced I went into number two with confidence.

The newer procedure and type of replacement used made for excellent recovery with no pain (no pain on the first one either) only tightness of the area of the incision. I am back at work, mowing lawns and gardening on the 4 week period. I think that I have learnt from the first and second hip replacement is:

1. Prepare before surgery, try to lose some weight, see a physio and do exercises given. I didn't do this first time around and it made a big difference this time around as now 63 not as nibble as I was for the first replacement.

2. I was afraid to have the Spinal Anaesthesia first time around and had General Anaesthesia. This time around I had the Spinal Anaesthesia. It is a much better option than general Anaesthesia. When I awoke I was coherent 3 hours after being put under. I didn't feel sick, ate dinner and could move around on the bed with ease. When I had General Anaesthesia for the first hip it took me a couple of days to be fully coherent, plus I felt sick and vomited a couple of times.

3. Read reviews of others that have had hip replacements by the doctor of your choice as I comforting to know the unknown.

4. Postoperative do the exercises given to you be the Physio you will find the more you exercise the better it will feel. The first three or four reps might seem tight but be rep ten you will feel the difference.

5. Any concern when you go home contact the clinic. The staff are happy to help.

6. After you have had your hip replacement you will wonder why you waited so long.

7. Don't confuse tightness with the pain, they are two different things. You wouldn't be having a hip replacement if you weren't already in pain from your hip, so when people say they have no pain after the operation it is true.

8. Be confident and you will reap the benefits of Dr. Waller experienced team.

Dr. Waller was recommended to me by one of our cafe customer 12 years ago. He was an older gentleman and had his hip replaced by Craig.

At the time of the first visit in 2006, I was a relatively young age for a hip replacement 52. The clinic was then located in Randwick all staff were professional and very friendly. Dr. Waller was easy to talk to, professional and had a conference about him that was reassuring. Now the clinic I attended is at Darlinghurst and nothing has changed profession, friendly and caring service.

Dr. Waller and his team are our family's surgeon. My wife is booked for knee surgery, my 84 mother in law has had a hip replacement and walks freely every day, my brother in law has had his hip replaced with no issues and I have had both hips replaced with no issues.

It is not cheap (out of pocket expense ) but worth every cent to be pain-free in the hips as pain can be a depressant. Better to be pain-free and happy than in pain and miserable.

"The doctor gave me the confidence to proceed with the surgery"

Treatment Received: Hip Replacement
Total right hip replacement, dual mobility, anterior approach.

I am 69 years of age. I have suffered considerable pain, bone on bone, in my right hip for the past year. I carried out my own extensive research into hip replacement surgery. I met with several surgeons prior to the surgery. I was surprised to learn of the different types of operations available to patients.

Upon talking with Dr. Craig Waller, reading reviews of his work, and learning about the benefits of a dual mobility prosthetic hip surgery, anterior approach, my decision was clear. After a long career in the Australian Public Service, Canberra, I have retired with my partner to our NSW farm where we breed and train horses. I'm the horse rider. It was quite obvious that a dual mobility hip replacement was the go for me. I also enjoy snow skiing.

At my 6 weeks check, I'm no longer requiring any medication and I'm free from my stick. I have taken up Nordic walking around our farm and easily achieve 10,000 steps a day according to my Fitbit. I'm planning to be back in the saddle this weekend. I'm planning a trip to the ski fields end of August.

As mentioned, I chose this clinic after extensively researching all approaches of hip replacement surgery. The fact that dual mobility surgery has an extremely low possibility of dislocation was of instant attraction to me.

Dr. Waller was attentive and understanding during our initial consultation. He explained every aspect of my condition and the type of surgery suitable for me. Dr. Waller's clear and friendly communication approach gave me the confidence to proceed with surgery.

"Very efficient and professional"

Treatment Received: Orthopaedist Consultation
I have recently had my third different operations by Dr Waller over a 14 year period . Each operation was completely successful and enabled me to continue a very active life style of walking , cycling golfing and many other active events .
I could not have hoped for any better results .
Consequently I have recommended Dr Waller to several other friends and they too have enjoyed similar results
I consider the operations represented excellent value given the ongoing active lifestyle they have afforded me as a 75 year old male..

The clinic offered very efficient and professional service

"I cannot thank Dr Waller enough for the ability to enjoy my favourite pastimes once again"

Treatment Received: Knee Replacement
In June 1999, I injured my left knee whilst snow skiing. An exploratory arthroscope afterwards involved the removal of the medial meniscus due to a saddle tear. An anterior cruciate ligament rupture was also diagnosed. My orthodopod at the time would not perform the ACL repair and told me to do my homework and find a surgeon in Sydney. Dr Craig Waller was that man. He repaired the ligament 100% successfully. But as the years passed, the joint became increasingly arthritic, until I reached the point that I could no longer enjoy my skiing, cycling and other sporting pursuits due to the increasing pain. After a visit to see Dr Waller in September 2015, it was decided that a total left knee replacement was in order. Twelve months down the track and I have just seen Dr Waller for my last appraisal, everything is back to 100%, being completely pain free. I had thirty days on snow, skiing this past winter and it was fantastic, no need for leg or knee braces. I cannot thank Dr Waller enough for the assistance he has afforded me in the delivery of a totally pain free knee, and the ability to enjoy my favourite pastimes once again.

Dr Waller and his staff are first rate. They have always given me their very best efforts to accomodate my needs whether it was organising appointments, hospital accomodation, rehabilitation options, or even allaying my fears pre-operation.

"I am now walking eight kilometres a day less than eight weeks after the operation"

I found Dr Waller, and his staff, gave consistently excellent, first-class treatment and advice. Dr Waller offered not just specialist, expert medical judgment; he did so in a practical, common sense, accessible way. His capacity to explain what was going to be done, how long recovery would take, and what I should expect, was exceptional. I am now walking eight kilometres a day less than eight weeks after the operation.

Treatment Received: Knee Replacement
I had a Total Knee Replacement. I was in so much pain before the operation that walking without pain was not possible. Since Dr Waller performed his magic I am pain free and mas mo0bile as a mountain goat. Yes there was pain involved with the operation but the pain killers prescribed took that all away leaving me in little discomfort.

Dr Waller is a genius I couldn't recommend him more highly. Not only has he delivered a flawless medical treatment, he has given me my life back,

"I am completely pain free and have great flexibility"
5 50Reviewed 04 Nov 2015 Review verified by phone and email.
Treatment Received: Knee Replacement
I had a double knee replacement six months ago and have just had my 6 month post-op appointment with Craig. The results have been unbelievable. I am completely pain free and have great flexibility (and that is continuing to improve). We had planned a walking tour prior to the operation for September this year. It included walks of varying degrees of difficulty from 8 to 18km and I am delighted to say they were successfully completed. I now have mobility and am pain free after 30 odd years of knee problems.
As both knees were arthritic and had limited movement I put off a double knee replacement until they were basically worn-out. The double knee replacement for me was virtually pain free. Although the knees were stiff initially I was fortunate to experience a pain free recovery. The scars are barely noticeable and as someone said recently, it is the work of a cosmetic surgeon.
Craig thanks so much to you and your great staff for my new lease of life!
Kind regards
Greg

An incredibly positive experience from an excellent surgeon with a remarkable team. Craig replaced my left hip in 2010 and I had no hesitation in choosing him as my surgeon for the double knee replacement. He is a brilliant surgeon and I have the utmost confidence in him. I would recommend Craig to anyone!!
