About Glasgow Oncology Clinic

The Glasgow Oncology Clinic provides a specialist private cancer treatment service for patients with breast, colorectal, urological and gastrointestinal malignancies.

Breast & Urological cancers are managed by Dr Abdulla Alhasso whilst Colorectal and Gastrointestinal cancers are managed by Dr Alec McDonald. Our clinicians have specialist NHS practices in one of the largest cancer treatment facilities in the UK, the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre and are actively involved in research, audit and development of cutting edge treatments.

Our unit is experienced in the delivery of specialised chemotherapy regimens, based on the most up to date research and incorporating (where appropriate) the use of the newest available drugs including biological agents.

Our oncologists are also highly experienced in the use of radiotherapy, in the integrated delivery of radiotherapy & chemotherapy and in the use of hormonal therapies, which play an important part in the treatment of breast and prostate cancer.

Treatment is delivered in the setting of our dedicated unit, staffed by the specialist oncology nursing team and supported by the full facilities of BMI Ross Hall Hospital.

Dr Alec McDonald

Job Title:

Dr Alec McDonald MD MRCP FRCR MSc

Alec McDonald graduated from the University of GlasgowMedical School in 1986 and undertook specialist oncology training in Glasgowand on Merseyside.

He has more than 10 years experience at consultant level,based in the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre. His specialist clinicalpractice deals exclusively with gastro-intestinal malignancies (colorectal,oesophageal, stomach, pancreatic and anal cancers).

His special clinical interests include the use of adjuvant(post-operative) and neo-adjuvant (pre-operative) therapies, the incorporationof new drugs into clinical practice, the use of combinations of radiation &chemotherapy and the treatment of metastatic disease.

He is actively involved in clinical research for the treatment of gastrointestinal cancers and is co-investigator of a number of ongoing GI clinical trials. His previous research has included laboratory work examining  mechanisms of chemotherapy drug resistance, as well as clinical studies evaluating new drugs and novel methods to improve the management of rectal cancer.

He is a previous steering group member of the NCRI sub-groups for the treatment of both rectal and anal cancers - Until recently he also sat on the advisory boards of the West of Scotland Managed Clinical Networks for both Upper GI cancer and Colorectal cancer.

Dr Abdulla Alhasso

Job Title:


AbdullaAlhasso graduated from Mosul Medical School in 1993 and after completingmedical training, specialised in clinical oncology, with training completed in2004 at Clatterbridge Centre for Oncology on Merseyside.

Hehas developed a special interest in managing Breast and Urological cancers,with wide experience in both fields.

Heis interested in both the clinical and research aspects of oncology and iscurrently involved in several research projects.

Heis leading the development of breast radiotherapy services in the West ofScotland and has introduced several service development projects in both breastand urological cancer, including the development of Image Guided Radiotherapy(IGRT) for Prostate cancer and full CT planning of radiotherapy for breastcancer.

Heis actively involved in several clinical trials as a principle investigator andas a co- investigator in collaboration with other colleagues.
