Ms Holly Shearman

Job Title:
  Administrator
Biography:
I love being a midwife. I love being able to witness a woman giving birth. It is such a powerful and sacred event each and every time. It never gets old. Birth is such a miracle. I am dedicated to helping women and their families achieve the birth experience they desire. I have always been interested in delivering babies but not sure which route to pursue. While doing my prerequisites for nursing school our family was relocated to Korea. In Korea my eyes were opened to alternative healthcare. I became interested in herbs and homeopathy and shortly after moving back home to San Antonio found a local midwifery organization. I attended one of the monthly meetings and was immediately “hooked”. I knew I had found my passion. I began midwifery school and attending births in 1995, while pregnant with my third child. His birth at home changed me-it was a much better experience than giving birth in the hospital. I didn’t have to fight for what I wanted. I wish every woman could experience what I experienced.

Job Title:
  Midwife
Biography:
I am overjoyed to be joining the West Houston Birth Center. It will be a joy to walk alongside you through your pregnancy and labor as you welcome your precious child into this world. I strongly believe that we are all wonderfully made by a loving Creator and each child is a precious gift to his parents. I am passionate about the art and profession of midwifery. I love to see children born naturally, beautifully, and peacefully into the arms of their family. I have been a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) through the North American Registry of Midwives since 2012. I have also been in the nursing profession for the past decade. I have a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Psychology as well. I became passionate about midwifery and safe childbirth in 2002 when I first travelled overseas to East Africa working with a medical missionary. I saw beautiful natural births, but also saw devastating outcomes due to lack of prenatal care and nutrition. While beginning my own family, I continued pursuing interest in midwifery. In 2007 I began formal training at Maternidad La Luz to become a CPM. I was awarded the Women’s Fund of El Paso to pursue my midwife training. I completed my didactic and clinical training through the NARM PEP process and through various apprenticeships and internships here in the States and abroad. I became a CPM In 2012 and an LM in the State of Arizona. I have most recently had a home birth practice in Tucson, Arizona called Wonderfully Made Midwife Services. Also I have had the privilege to work overseas in Africa and other countries to help women birth naturally and safely. All these experiences have made me appreciate the art and skill of midwifery even more.

Job Title:
  Nurse
Biography:
I have always known I wanted to work in the healthcare field. After high school, I attended Angelina College and received my Licensed Vocational Nursing Degree in 2008 and continued on to Stephen F. Austin State University and obtained my Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing in 2010. I was even able to start as a patient care tech in my local hospital while studying to become a nurse. So I have basically worked from the bottom up. I went from adult care to a level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit taking care of very premature babies and sick full term babies. From there I moved here to Houston and took a nurse position in a well-baby nursery/level 2 NICU. I worked there for 2 years and became a charge Nurse after only 6months. I was able to attend over 130 deliveries and gain a lot of experience. I was able to see the low risk side of births but also learn how to take care of unexpected outcomes. I have absolutely loved these last 6.5 years of my nursing career.
