Dr Phillip Beattie

Biography:
He is married with two grown-up children. He was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland and educated at the Royal Belfast Academical Institution and the medical school of Queen's University, Belfast. Philip came to New Zealand in 1989 to further his medical training and compete in the 1990 Auckland Commonwealth Games, to defend the Commonwealth title he won in Edinburgh in 1986, representing Northern Ireland in athletics. He was also a member of the British team competing at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. He worked at National Women's Hospital, training in obstetrics, gynaecology and neonatology, before returning to the United Kingdom in 1991. In 1992, he returned to New Zealand to marry paediatrician Wendy Walker. He now combines private practice with part time work as a specialist at Auckland City Hospital, National Women’s Health. His main areas of interest include high-risk obstetric medicine, pre-malignant disease of the cervix and uterus, colposcopy, and general gynaecology.

Dr Dereck Souter

Biography:
He is married with two grown-up children. Born and raised in Wellington, he entered Otago Medical School in 1980. After graduation, he joined the Royal New Zealand Navy as a medical officer. Dereck served both at sea and in the Navy Hospital at Devonport before moving to England to train in obstetrics and gynaecology. He gained his membership of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in London in 1993. After returning to New Zealand in 1993, Dereck joined the high risk obstetric team at National Women's Hospital, soon becoming a consultant. He was promoted to clinical director of the team in 1997. In 2000, Dereck completed his post graduate specialist diploma in obstetric and gynaecological ultrasound. Today he combines private practice with a part time role at National Women's Hospital, where he has specific involvement with the ultrasound department performing both amniocentesis and CVS. His main medical interests are antenatal diagnosis, high risk pregnancy, multiple pregnancy, and pregnancy ultrasound.

Dr Paul Robinson

Biography:
He up on a farm in Cambridge. His career spans biomedical research with Waikato, Auckland and UCLA Universities, as well as clinical medicine, obstetrics, and gynaecology in Auckland and Tauranga Hospitals. As well as obstetrics, his special interests include infertility and recurrent miscarriage, colposcopy and laparoscopic surgery. When not at Origins, he is based at Auckland Hospital where he has an Obstetrics and Gynaecology Specialist position. Paul balances his work life with cycling, as well as spending time with his wife and three children.
