I am an extremely experienced Sports, Remedial & Muscle Rehabilitation Therapist who has been practising for over 20 years and 10 of those years I have been the therapist to Mr William Fox-Pitt who has been the British Equestrian & World No.1 Three day Eventing Champion. In my practice I treat anything from sciatica, tendinitis, plantar fasciitis, carpal tunnel, tennis/golfers elbow, neck/shoulder pain, upper/lower back pain, headaches/jaw pain (TMJ) through to rehabilitation of new knee/hip ops.
But you don't have to be an Olympian to have a treatment my eldest client is 94!
“As an International Three-Day Event rider (Horse Riding) my body is regularly pushed to the limits. The physical demands of such a sport cause inevitable strains, aches and pains. I am treated by Jenny Hummel on a regular basis and over the last 10 years her knowledge and experience in a vast range of techniques, has not only kept me on the road (once even flying out to France as my back was so painful, which enabled me to compete in a major competition, which I went on to win!) so she has really helped me maximise my performance.
She has a fantastic clinic in Shillingstone where she gives treatments in a lovely relaxing and incredibly comfortable environment. In my opinion she definitely has a great, great gift and I would recommend her to anybody, either with an injury or just in need of general maintenance.” William Fox-Pitt
There has been some really exciting developments for me over the last two years in my quest for better overall health for both my clients and myself. In 2015 I qualified as an Advanced Nutritional Therapist and then also attended the renowned Institute for Functional Medicine AFMCP (Applying Functional Medicine in Clinical Practice) course. This was a truly amazing course which really opened my eyes in how to assist my clients further with some health conditions they were struggling with. Functional Medicine offers a new operating system to understand and treat the root causes of dysfunction across complex and chronic diseases. You may remember a tv programme called 'Doctor in the House' by Dr Ranjan Chattergee a wonderful and innovative GP who moved into people's houses in order to get to the bottom of their conditions, well Ranjan was on that same course in London and was a real inspiration to me and in my opinion to healthcare as a whole in this country. Although I must just add, I am not a GP and I won't be moving into your house...
I use the Functional Medicine tools to look holistically at health conditions. You may have heard of sayings like "It's all about the Gut" or "The Gut is the second brain". It's true, the gut is fundamental to your health and immune system. What does the Gut Microbiome actually mean? What is Gluten Free, fad or health benefit? What are antibodies and why do we measure them? What is the difference between optimal blood tests and 'within range'. All this is part of the fundamental thinking of the Institute for Functional Medicine, in other words peeling away the layers of health conditions, getting to the root cause and aiming at the cause, not the symptoms. All very exciting stuff and over the last few years of using the Functional Medicine system I have seen some really wonderful changes in not only my clients health, but my own too!
Don't worry if you can't get to make appointments in Dorset, especially if you work in London or elsewhere, as a lot of my clients do. We can easily arrange a time to Skype or FaceTime consultation so you don't need to put your health on hold just because of your busy lifestyle.
My motto is "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and he feeds himself for the rest of his lifetime" my aim is to show you the tools to contribute towards your good health.
So.... Let's go fishing........
Please note: My clinic is usually booked up two to three weeks in advance, but don't let that put you off as it is always worth ringing as I may have had a cancellation and if your need is urgent I will do my best to fit you in as soon as I can.
FYI: I am not a GP and I do not offer the services of HPC registered Physiotherapist or Physical Therapist.
