For some years I have had cataracts developing and they had progressed to a point where they were impacting on daily life. As the only choices were elective surgery or continuing deteriorating eyesight the obvious choice was the surgery. Cataract removal and new lenses cost approx £6,500.
Thus far the improvement in my vision ( unaided ) would be worth any cost. I was entirely satisfied with my entire Optical Express experience.
I have attended Optical Express in Dumbarton for many years for my eye examinations, so when the need for a surgical intervention. I was happy to go for a consult at the Glasgow center.
I attended for an appointment and assessment with an optometrist in April. This lasted about an hour when I decided to go ahead with the procedure and opted for mono-focal lenses. I should point out that the optometrist went through both the positive and negative aspects of both vari and mono-focal lenses, as well as warning of possible poor results with any surgical procedure.
One week prior to scheduled surgery I had a private, one on one face to face with ophthalmic surgeon Mr. D. Teenan, who would be operating on me. He described the op, warned of potential problems should anything go wrong and gave me as much time as required to ask any questions I wished. The following week I had surgery on Monday and Tuesday which was a very professional experience from start to finish.
The day of the operations I did experience what I had been warned about in terms of ghost images and halo effects around light sources. By the following day these effects had settled down and I was really enjoying 20 x 20 unassisted vision in both eyes. Thus far my experience has been altogether positive and I would recommend Mr. Teenan and the Optical Express team.
