She was born in 1965 in Istanbul. In 1983, she graduated from the American Robert College as the best student. In 1989, she completed her medical studies at the University of Istanbul and specialized in the field of eye diseases at Cerrahpasa Medical Faculty in 1993. She has completed her postdoctoral work at the Wilmer-Eye-Institute of the John-Hopkins University in the USA. Between 1993 and 1997, she completed a specialization in the field of anterior-segment surgery (cataract, cornea and laser surgery) at the University of California (University of California). In many international congresses she has represented the University of California and published works in the most prestigious journals. She has been involved in the training of many American ophthalmologists and researchers. In 1997 she was awarded the Bausch & Lomb Award for Best Young Researchers. She was then accepted by the Jules Stein Eye Institute of the University of California for her medical success and her research as the first and only Turkish eye doctor for the Eyestar program.
