Floaterlaser - Dr. Feike Gerbrandy

Dr Feike Gerbrandy has specialized in the laser treatment of vitreous floaters. He started Floaterlaser Amsterdam Eye Clinic, a clinic dedicated to this treatment. In 2011 he joined forces with Opsis Eye Hospital in Amsterdam. Many international patients have found their way to dr Gerbrandy in Amsterdam. Lasers: Dr Gerbrandy is using 2 different YAG lasers. A Zeiss Visular 3 laser and recently a Microruptor II . The latter is the same one as dr Scott Geller in Florida is using. This laser is considered the best ophthalmic YAG laser ever produced. Especially designed for laser treatment of the vitreous. Dr Geller and dr Gerbrandy founded the ISVLS (International Society of Vitreous Laser Surgery) and the Vitreous Floaters Study Group . The members of the ISVLS are all vitreous floaters specialists. The purpose of the ISVLS is to cooperate in research and establish guidelines for treatment. Tips for planning your treatment: Before coming over make sure your floaters are visible to an ophthalmologist. If the floaters are close to the retina or lens it is likely that we will not be able to safely treat them. For people that have had cataract surgery there is no problem if the floater is close to the lens. It does happen that people have travelled from far and are unfortunately no candidate for treatment. We wait with treatment at least 2 to 3 months after the onset of floaters. Many floaters will spontaneously improve during that period. Plan to spend 3 days in town. This will enable us to do additional treatments if necessary. Most floaters need more than one treatment session. Some types of floaters will need additional treatment after some months or longer. In general most treatable floaters can be succesfully treated with 1 to 4 sessions. Even if we are unable to treat your floaters you can enjoy Amsterdam as a tourist. There are many things to do and see.
