Alison Barry

Diabetes Education. Bachelor of Nursing Registered Midwife Graduate Certificate in Diabetes Education and Care Registered with AHPRA Member Society of Obstetric Medicine – Australia and New Zealand Member Australasian Diabetes in Pregnancy Society Member Australian Diabetes Educators Association Member Australian College of Midwives Alison Barry is a midwife and credentialed diabetes educator with over 20 years of experience working in the specialty areas of diabetes and pregnancy. Alison held the position of Clinical Nursing Consultant at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital for an extended period where she has been involved in the multi-disciplinary care for pregnant women with Type 1, Type 2, gestational diabetes and pre-conception care for with women with pre-existing diabetes. Alison has also been actively involved in a number of research projects including: Project Manager for Gestational Diabetes Study 2004-6 Project Manager for the Statewide Diabetes in Pregnancy Innovation Project 2007-9 Research Coordinator for Queensland Statewide Review of Gestational Diabetes Management in Queensland 2012-current. Alison uses her vast knowledge and experience to assist men and women with diabetes to manage their condition. Ms Esme Soan

Bachelor of Clinical Exercise Physiology from Queensland University of Technology Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP) registered with Exercise and Sport Science Australia (ESSA) Esme has been working at Mater since graduating with a Bachelor of Clinical Exercise Physiology from the Queensland University of Technology and is an Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP). AEPs specialise in clinical exercise interventions for people at high risk of developing, or with existing chronic disease or medical conditions. Her experience as an AEP has provided her with the skills and knowledge necessary to develop exercise prescriptions to suit each individual to improve their health, fitness and wellness. Esme has a special interest in preconception, pregnancy and postnatal health, providing guidance for a fit and healthy pregnancy. She also can work collaboratively with dietitians to provide weight management and health education to clients looking to achieve weight loss. She is also able to provide exercise prescription for clients who have a particular fitness goal. As well as working at Mater Health and Wellness, Esme works as a researcher at Mater Research, investigating how a healthy diet and engaging in physical activity and exercise during pregnancy can influence and improve long term health outcomes for both mother and baby.

Ms Desiree Frigenti

Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BSc. Phys) Registered Physiotherapist (AHPRA) Member of Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA) Member APA National Paediatric Special Interest Group Specialist training in Sensory Processing AIMS – (Alberta Infant Motor Scale) and TIMP – (Test for Infant Motor Performance) trained Introductory NDT training – (Neuro-Developmental Therapy Desiree has worked as a Physiotherapist specialising exclusively in the treatment of children since 1983. During this time she has had extensive experience in a number of paediatric settings. She has been closely associated in the public, private and community health settings in South Africa, New Zealand and Australia. She has extensive and diverse range of skills in the management of children with a wide range of health issues and conditions. Desiree's specific experience and interests are in paediatric developmental and neurological difficulties, sensory processing difficulties, biomechanical difficulties associated with posture, movement, control, coordination and reflux. Desiree has extensive training and experience in sensory processing assessment and treatment for low muscle tone and coordination issues. She is passionate about her work and has a strong commitment to assist every child to reach their potential. Desiree's approach is holistic and practical through play. Desiree is the author of Play Sense and is currently involved in research, investigating The Movement Patterns in the Irritable Child.
