Aesthetic TV interviews Dr. Ziering When you think about hair restoration, what image pops in your mind; balding men in their 60s? Hair plugs? Donald Trump's comb over? Well, it's time to expand your thinking.
It's not just men in their 60s who are affected by hair loss; one-third of men in their 30s experience thinning and even balding. Moreover, women are also on the hit list thanks to hormones and heredity.
Hair "plugs", which entailed punching out circles of hair several centimeters wide and relocating them in such a way that it was obvious the person had them, is ancient history. Today's treatments focus on extracting and transplanting individual follicles, a process that is time and labor intensive, but creates natural looking results with such minimal scars that even a trained eye will strain to notice. Now, even this has been advanced with the new ARTAS computer-assisted technology from Restoration Robotics. The device's image guided robotics eliminate the intense labor and much of the time associated with the extraction process, freeing up the doctor to focus on the design of the hairline and placement of the grafted units.
Combing over is no longer necessary, although Trump is now known for his infamous hairdo, so his may be necessary. With Restoration Robotics both men and women can fill a thinning area, redefine a receding line, and even completely repopulate a bald spot, whether the loss is due to heredity, hormones, age, injury or illness.
ARTAS technology uses follicular unit extraction (FUE) to painlessly move as many as 3,000 hair follicles from the back of the head to the front, leaving behind tiny pin-like scars that, even if you shave your head, are pretty much unnoticeable. The technology incorporates the joint participation of a robot and the doctor. The robot precisely removes each individual follicle from the donor site (an area where there is plenty of hair), while the doctor determines the design and placement for each individual follicle, taking into account the patient's facial structure to design a new, natural looking hairline. Then he inserts the follicles into their new spots.
The procedure is precise and effective, requiring little downtime, and the results are a seeming reversal of age and an instant infusion of confidence. If you're losing your hair, it's no longer a question of "should I?", but a question of "why wouldn't I?" 11/12/2013 13:28:33
