We offer our patients suffering from corneal diseases an examination at our specialised corneal disease examination centre. This examination centre boasts the unique PENTACAM device that enables early diagnosis of keratoconus (the progressive thinning and deviation of the cornea) as well as other ailments affecting the cornea including post-traumatic conditions. The initial examination at our specialised corneal disease centre takes 1.5 to 2 hours and it is entirely painless. It includes complete anamnesis of the patient’s eyesight, establishing the exact dioptre error, detailed examination of the frontal segment of the eye, measuring of the intraocular pressure as well as the tear test. Examination of the rear segment of the eye follows. To do this, it is essential to dilate the pupils using special eye drops. The consultant is Dr Petr Novák, who is involved with this specialised segment of ophthalmology as part of his clinical practice. As such it is possible to follow up on other specialised examinations as well as operative solutions including the transplantation of the cornea.

Our complex eye examination takes about 90 to 120 minutes. It is entirely painless. It involves establishing complete eye anamnesis, determining exact dioptre error, a thorough examination of the frontal segment of the eye, measuring the intraocular pressure as well as the Schirmer test. In addition, during the examination, we also check the rear of the eye whereby it is necessary to administer special eye drops that dilate the pupil. We perform the examination of the cornea and the entire frontal segment of the eye using PENTACAM.

 Before undergoing the procedure, it is required to first have a thorough and entirely painless complex eye examination. It includes complete anamnesis of the patient’s eyesight, establishing the exact dioptre error, detailed examination of the frontal segment of the eye, measuring of the intraocular pressure as well as the tear test. It further includes an examination of the intraocular lens as well as the rear segment of the eye. It is essential to administer special eye drops to dilate the pupil prior to this examination. In this way, it is possible to discover any dislocation of the lens, the loosening of the suspensory apparatus, pathology of the pupil casing or any anomaly of the vitreous humour. It further enables us to examine the retina including the periphery of the central visual field and the optic nerve. Examination using the unique PENTACAM device is part of the initial examination. The AL-SCAN device enables us to carry out a biometric examination of the eye with a subsequent calculation of the dioptre value of the implanted lens. Should it be necessary, we will carry out other specialised examinations such as the examination of the field of vision, strabismus analysis, OCT etc. Based on these results, the surgeon will establish whether intraocular eye surgery/cataract surgery is suitable. Having done all of the above and having taken into consideration the patient’s expectations and the specialist’s recommendations, it is possible to determine the ideal type of intraocular lens.
