Dr Alan Gibson Frame MBBS

  2270911
Job Title:
  General Practitioner
Biography:
Qualifying at Barts in 1975, I underwent vocational training in Shropshire before moving to the Island in 1980 to join the Shanklin Practice. In the subsequent 25 years I have seen many changes to the building but our work has retained the family doctor approach with personal lists. We have a small turnover in list numbers allowing a rapport and understanding between doctor and patient which is something I feel is essential for good and satisfying general practice. I mainly restrict my work to general practice but have over the years been both Chairman of the Local Medical Committee and the District Medical Committee. I gave up both these jobs to allow more free time to bring up my children. Now that the children have grown up I have taken on the role as one of the Island GP appraisers. I have never once regretted my move to the Island as it has given me and my children a good life in happy and safe surroundings.

  General Practitioner
Biography:
I trained at the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa, qualifying in 1970. I worked in the Tygerberg and Karl Bremer hospitals in Bellville for 2 years and subsequently was a GP in South Africa for 30 years (5 years in Harrismith and 25 years in Port Elizabeth). I relocated to the UK in June 2003and have resided on the Isle of Wight since. Initially I worked at the St Helens Medical Centre as a registrar for 6 months before joining the practice as a full time partner. I joined the Shanklin Medical Centre as a partner on 1/4/2006. I have an interest in minor operations and joint injections, respiratory illness and diabetes mellitus. In my spare time I enjoy radio modelling, sailing and DIY. My wife Elna is the Nurse in Charge in the Nursing Home that forms part of the Orchard Hospital on the Isle of Wight. We have 3 children, two sons and a daughter and all of them are residing and working in the UK. As a family we feel we have discovered real quality of life on the Isle of Wight.

Job Title:
  General Practitioner
Biography:
I qualified from Guys in 1979 and after house jobs there and on the South coast spent my trainee year with this Practice. I was happy to rejoin the Practice as a part-time partner in 1995. In the interim I worked as a principal in a rural , dispensing practice; held posts as clinical assistant in ENT at St Mary’s Hospital, Isle of Wight; CMO in community paediatrics and a variety of GP locums. Within the Practice I tend to see surgeries of predominantly female patients. I have until recently also been able to offer ENT clinics within the Practice. I am married to a dentist and we have three children now all at university. We all enjoy the tranquility of the Island, the wildlife and the variety of sports available. Amongst my interests I include tennis, sailing (preferably in warm waters!) walking and reading.

Job Title:

Biography:
The Isle of Wight has been ‘home’ for me for the past 20 years. I joined the Shanklin medical centre as a partner in 1994. Having trained and worked as a hospital doctor for nineteen years prior to entering general practice. I have trained to specialist levels in Acute General medicine, Respiratory medicine, infectious diseases and Gastroenterology. I was the first and only General practitioner on the Isle of Wight to organize a primary care led ,independent open access endoscopy service and have performed no less than 5000 endoscopies, including gastroscopies, colonoscopies, ERCP’S and bronchoscopies, during the years 1985 to 2002.. I have passed competitive medical examinations from three countries (MBBS and then MD from India, MRCP from UK, F.M.G.E.M.S from USA and finally The Federation licensure examination, from Philadelphia, USA.). One might ask that with all these achievements, why was not elsewhere, and the answer to me is quite obvious. The Isle of Wight has offered me and my family , the perfect setting for a pleasant family life. My wife is a consultant Anaesthetist and we have two children, one of whom is in medical school, the other child is on her way to doing dentistry. Hopefully , they will choose to live on the island !!
