Mary McHugh is an experienced Fully Qualified Psychotherapist working in Co. Mayo. She works with individuals, couples and groups. Mary offers a Warm and supportive Service. Mary comes from a very experienced background. She is passionate about people and about the empowerment of them. So many of us can give our power away too easily. She has a deep belief inequality of the human being and will go to great lengths to support groups who have been marginalized in today's world. Her work has been with ISPCC, Cura, VEC, and more recently it was in the setting up and managing of a Suicide Support Page for People with Depression and who felt very disempowered. Mary's moving on from that organisation has only heightened her desire to work with very vulnerable members of our society. Mary would undertake a lot of Voluntary work and feels anything given out freely will be repaid tenfold and she has found this to be true. Her journey has been a very gracious, humbling one, laden with Gifts of the Heart. The team consists of a qualified and experienced general medical practitioner and his wife who is a qualified physiotherapist. Services provided at the clinic include general health examinations, family planning assistance, maternity care, childhood and adult immunizations and travel vaccinations, minor surgical procedures, joint injections, dermatology, child health monitoring, health services for men, women and students and physiotherapy for patients with painful musculoskeletal and neurological complaints and sports injuries.

"New Choices" is an alternative to residential or 12 step recovery programs and usually concentrates on Mothers who are struggling with alcohol dependency or having difficulties staying "off" alcohol. Evidence shows that woman and young mothers are have more emotional guilt when drinking and often the traditional methods of treatment provided in Ireland don't "fit" their needs.  The service works on the basis of Dual Diagnosis and integrated treatment. It is a home based treatment. This means that once an initial assessment is done in the office of "New Choices" then the rest of your treatment that is provided by us is done in the comfort of your own home. This includes a home based alcohol detox provided by a qualified, registered nurse and mental health facilitator, a visiting mental health facilitator will also continue to visit you at home at a time that suits you and your family schedule. Integrated treatments are a combination of methods that are evidence based and patient centered and other professional may be asked to link in with your treatment plan. The team will also work with your family members and help them to get the support, advice and education they need so you can all move forward as a family together. "New Choices" will spend more time on your mental health and what it is that you and your family need rather than offering you a "set program" to follow.
