Dr George Baker
Job Title: Dermatologist
He was born and raised in Dallas, the son of a Methodist minister and Professor of Theology at Perkins School of Theology, SMU. From a very young age, I was particularly fascinated with both medicine and music- To make a long story short, after graduating from Highland Park High School, I earned four music degrees (including a doctorate from the University of Michigan) and enjoyed a successful Twelve year career as an international performing and recording artist and University professor. In 1981, he decided to also undertake the challenge of becoming a doctor. After taking the prerequisite courses and entrance exams, I was admitted to University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas and graduated with my M.D. degree in 1987. After an internship in Internal Medicine at Parkland Hospital and the Dallas VA Medical Center (1987-1988), I completed my dermatology residency at Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland (1988-1991). I am board-certified and a Diplomat of the American Board of Dermatology. I was recertified in 2009. I have practiced dermatology in Texas since 1991. In addition during 1996-1998, I earned the Executive M.B.A. degree at the Cox School of Business, SMU. During these two years, I was also staff dermatologist at the SMU Memorial Health Center. My medical research interests include doctor - patient communication, patient education and compliance, and health care reform. He is married. My lovely wife’s name is Marjorie, and we have two wonderful children; daughter Paige (born November 1993) and son Evan (born January 1998). Our family is active in University Park United Methodist Church. My hobbies include composing, performing and recording music, cooking, exercise, and playing with our kids.
