Mary Ruth Buchness, MD, Dermatologist, PC

Dr. Mary Ruth Buchness studied the Biochemical Sciences at Harvard University‚ graduating with honors. She then completed her MD degree at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons‚ where she remained and completed her dermatology residency. Dr. Buchness was board-certified and became a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology in 1986.

After residency‚ she became a member of the full-time faculty at New York University Medical School‚ where she was the Assistant Chief of Dermatology at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Manhattan. While at the VA Medical Center‚ Dr. Buchness published many papers on skin diseases associated with sensitivity to ultraviolet radiation and those associated with HIV infection. In 1988‚ a paper she wrote describing a novel treatment for a previously untreatable HIV-associated skin disease was published in the New England Journal of Medicine. In 1995‚ Dr. Buchness became the Chief of Dermatology at St. Vincent’s Hospital and Medical Center in Manhattan‚ where she continued her research into skin diseases associated with HIV infection.

Dr. Buchness participates‚ and has had leadership positions in many professional organizations. She is the President of the New York State Society of Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery. She has served on the executive committee of the Advisory Board of the American Academy of Dermatology and as the chairperson of the Dermatology Section of the New York Academy of Medicine. She has served as President of the Woman’s Medical Association of New York City and of the Manhattan Metropolitan Dermatological Society. She has served on the Board of Directors of the Greater New York Dermatologic Society. She is a member of the Medical Society of the State of New York‚ the New York County Medical Society and the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery

Ashley is a licensed, board certified Physician Assistant trained in dermatology. She is a leading member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants. Ashley attended the University of Michigan studying Pre-Health, obtaining her Bachelor’s Degree in Brain, Behavior & Cognitive Science. During her undergraduate career, she had a strong interest in international medicine and devoted her studies to research. After graduation, she attended Mercy College where she began her Physician Assistant training, graduating Summa Cum Laude with a Masters Degree in Physician Assistant Studies. Ashley developed a strong passion and love for dermatology during her medical training when she began to see various cutaneous manifestations of systemic diseases. She also has a great understanding for many of the psychological repercussions of dermatological conditions. Ashley evaluates and treats patients presenting with a wide range of dermatologic conditions, including acne, psoriasis, vitiligo, rosacea, eczema, alopecia, and skin cancers. Ashley is from New York and was raised in Westchester County. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her friends, family, dogs and playing tennis.

Debbie Arteaga is a licensed aesthetician of both New York and New Jersey. She has worked in the beauty industry for over 25 years. Her experience has remained in the medical environment of dermatology and plastic surgery. She is certified in Basic and Advanced Manual Lymphatic Drainage and has advanced training in chemical peels. Debbie continues with her education to provide quality treatments to her patients.
