Dr Nathan Satler

Job Title:
  Dentist
Biography:
Dr. Nathan Satler’s dental education started long before his entry to dental school. His father, grandfather, and an uncle were dentists. Each one, in his own way, as a mentor, contributed to Dr. Satler’s philosophy of dentistry. The culmination of all those years of professional experience has created the tenets of a vision-based belief system that places understanding a patient’s needs and wants as the essential key to providing optimal dental care. In essence, all patients, at any age, need a viable road map for their dental care. Dr. Satler graduated from Adelphi University, cum laude, with a BA degree in Anthropology. He received his dental degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo. As an undergraduate dental student, he spent two summers at Roswell Park Cancer Institute making prosthetic dental devices for patients who suffered the ravages of oral cancer. Following graduation, he continued his education completing a General Practice Residency at Lenox Hill Hospital, in New York City. From there, he was accepted into the prestigious Fellowship Program in Oral Implantology Program at the Brookdale Hospital Medical Center. It was at Brookdale that Dr. Satler defined his career goals and direction. His role with the Brookdale Implant Group led to the publication of many articles on new and innovative dental implant techniques based on studies funded by grants from the National Aeronautics Space Administration, Sterling Winthrop Laboratories, National Institute of Dental Research and from the Carbomedics group. From 1978 to 1981, as a fellow and senior surgery resident, Dr. Satler managed five major human and animal dental implant studies, testing the efficacy of research protocols and materials. From 1978 to 1987, the Dr. Satler was Senior Research Associate of the then renowned Brookdale Dental Implant Group (BDIG). His mission in the group was to prevent the “premature transfer of technology” from dental implant manufacturers whose products were not ready to be used in human patients. Over a nine year period, Dr. Satler represented the BDIC at the prestigious meetings of the Society for Biomaterials, the American and International Associations for Dental Research, many local study groups and dental schools and the American Academy of Implant Dentistry. He has testified before the Food and Drug Administration about how the lack of unsubstantiated and poorly documented research can lead to premature technology transfer from the laboratory to human trials and how this can lead to higher than normal morbidity rates in the long term stability of dental implants. Dr. Satler has contributed to refereed publications such as the Journals of the International Association for Dental Research, American Association of Research, and the Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry. In addition he has contributed to a chapter on ceramic dental implant design published by …………….. Over the course of his dental career, Dr. Satler has expanded his academic and professional orientation, concentrating on all aspects of TMJ (temporomandibular joint) and occlusal (bite) dysfunction, implant surgery, implant prosthetics and restorative dentistry. He has completed the post-graduate curriculum at the prestigious Dawson Academy of Advanced Dentistry in St. Petersburg, Florida, and the Schuster Center in Scottsdale, Arizona for practice management. This has enabled him integrate his oral surgery background with an advanced understanding of the dynamics occlusion (bite) and of prosthetic dentistry. His progression in career development has allowed Dr. Satler to create road maps of optimal care for his patients that solve their dental problems in a logical and integrated manner. Creating dental “road maps” helps patients better understand their care as well as allows for them to anticipate their future dental needs.
