Implantologist Jon heads the team at Total Implant Solutions. He is committed to changing the perception of dentistry and ensuring a patient-focused ethos is at all times embraced by his team.

Formative dental experiences for many people, he admits, have not been good ones, but adds technological and procedural advances, combined with an accessible approach from his friendly staff, can begin to change that understanding.

Driven by a desire to improve the life quality of patients, his aim is to always exceed their expectations.
Jon graduated from the University of Birmingham in 1987 with honours and a distinction in clinical dentistry.

For more than 20 years he has pursued an interest in implantology and in 2009 was awarded an MSc with a distinction in Implant Dentistry from the University of Warwick.

Jon has a wide range of implant experience – from the single tooth replacement to the reconstruction of full arches - but has a particular interest in the restorative procedures now available for those who wear dentures.

Embracing holistic thinking on dentistry where specialisms are clearly defined and encouraged, Jon established Total Implant Solutions to ‘follow his dream’ bringing together a dynamic and talented team of professionals. 

In recent years strident changes in technology have vastly increased patient options while stretching clinical boundaries.

To help him keep abreast of developments, Jon is a regular contributor on the profession’s European circuit, travelling extensively overseas to study new procedures and map future trends in dental care.

Carl Horton has travelled the world sharing his knowledge of dentistry.

He has lectured extensively on treatment models and his pioneering research, taking international platforms at San Francisco, Gothenburg and Athens.

An engaging communicator, the principal dentist, who splits his time between his own practice and Total Implant Solutions, desires effectual communication with both clinicians and patients.

His specialism is periodontology – the study of the supporting structures of teeth and how to treat the diseases that can affect them.

With a jargon-free approach as he joins a growing number of dentists who wish to challenge negative preconceptions and build a friendly, patient-focused image for their profession.

A graduate of Birmingham University, he qualified with a Clinical Distinction in 1996. He has since added a PG Cert towards an MSc in periodontology.

Carl has worked as a General Practice associate, a part-time senior house officer in a hospital and as a clinical lecturer at Birmingham Dental School. 

He became a practice principal in 2003 and while continuing to teach undergraduates, also took the role of Foundation Dental Trainer for three successive years. 

His teaching experience allows him to undertake some of the most complex of dental problems. 

Carl’s work typically involves the treatment of gum disease, using microsurgery techniques to address ‘gummy smiles’ and other issues, bone grafting and procedures he describes as “the equivalent to keyhole surgery.” 

His interest in periodontology allows Carl to accept referrals from other practitioners at his own Midlands-based practice and Total Implant Solutions.

BDS (Hons) BSc (Physiology) MJDF RCS (Eng) Associate Parkside Dental Practice GDC 103510 After studying physiology at Cardiff University and gaining his BSc, Matthew continued at the university as a dental student. Qualifying with a BDS (Hons) in 2006 he took positions in general practice, worked as a senior house officer in a Maxillofacial surgery and spent six months as a Community Dental Officer. With a keen interest in day-to-day dental care, Matthew in recent years worked in mixed general practice in Newport, Shropshire. In 2011 he completed the Diploma of Membership of the Joint Dental Faculties of the Royal College of Surgeons of England – MJDF RCS (Eng). A relatively new face at our Parkside surgery, he looks after the largest patient book in the practice and continues to fit seamlessly into the Jon Pugh Dental ethos.
