"My experience at this clinic was a very positive one, with nothing unexpected or surprising"

Treatment Received: Fillings,Extractions
My left front premolar had a filling and it cracked into two. It was my first experience of having an extraction, but it was considerably less traumatic than I had imagined. The implant was inserted in stages during the following six months.

On the whole, my experience at Clinic 95 was a very positive one, with nothing unexpected or surprising. As the course of treatment was always explained thoroughly in advance.

Special interest in Implantology

I’m a member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons (Glasgow) and Association of Dental Implantology. I’m a dentist with a special interest which is Implantology and (my best moment in my career so far) I have completed an MSC in Dental Implantology.

I used to work at a general dentistry practice but did an implant masters where Maria was my mentor.  Once she had an opening here, I followed her so she could continue to be my mentor.  The stuff that she does is amazing.

What’s great about Clinic 95 is that we’ve got a proper theatre here, and a lab.  It’s just another level, I would say the top level of dentistry - I would say it doesn’t get any better than this.  To do a full mouth, reconstruction and implants, surgery, cosmetics, occlusion, everything, that’s what Maria does and that’s why I came here.

I didn’t always think I’d be a dentist though.  I did work experience in engineering.  My Mum’s best friend was a dentist and I went along for a day of work experience there.  I found what she was doing fascinating and went back for more.  My whole career started right there. I ended up spending a lot of time there as you have to do a lot of work experience before going to dental school.

The best part of my job?  Patient satisfaction is key - you both want to be pleased with the outcome.  It’s the patients who make the job as good as it is.

My absolute best piece of advice I give to my patients?  Flossing every day is the key to happiness.

I think art qualifications should be mandatory for dentists!  You must have excellent dexterity and a bit of artistry to be a truly great dentist.  If I wasn’t a dentist, I think I’d have to be doing something with my hands - something creative like very fine woodworking maybe.

The most common question I get asked is “Where are you from?”  The correct answer is Glasgow.  But I’ve have been taken for South African, Polish, German, Australian, Kiwi, everything.

Did you know I’m an identical twin?  Yes, there are two of me.
And I’m starting a family of my own.  I have a 19 month-old son and second baby due later this year.

When I’m not at work I just love to spend time with my family.  I used to play a lot of rugby but I’m too old now, so instead I play golf (badly!).

Benjamin

Mr Benjamin Tighe

Job Title:
  Dental Hygienist
Biography:

Benjamin Tighe Dental hygienist and therapist RDN DipD Hyg DipD Ther GDC reg no 185415

I qualified as a dental hygienist and therapist in 2011 from Newcastle University, having previously worked in dentistry as a fully qualified dental nurse.  I work five and a half days a week and I love what I do.

And I love the variety of people I meet. It may appear that all I do is clean teeth, but every patient is different and requires a treatment tailored to them. You never know what you’re going to get.

Education really important to me. To me it’s the most vital part of the whole appointment.
I can remove the deposits from the teeth and keep my end of the bargain,
but if you aren’t able to maintain your oral health at home, then all the plaque and tartar will reform quickly.

Often when patients come to me for the first time, they sometimes have a mouth that has not been best cared for (often due to being nervous in the past).  I provide treatment, and sit with them afterwards, explaining to them all about their mouth and how to care for it. Subsequently when they return for their follow up appointment, their mouth has already started to show results in just a couple of weeks.  They’re so thankful for finally knowing what to do and how to do it, and they can’t believe the great feeling that oral health gives them. That’s the best bit of my job.

So a typical hygiene appointment with me consists of removing plaque/tartar, polishing the teeth, and then showing you how to make positive changes to your oral hygiene regime, encouraging you to keep up the standard for your mouth that we’ve just achieved in the hygiene session.

The best piece of advice I can give to patients is to floss and brush.  Just that.
Brushing without flossing is like showering and not washing your armpits.  I know that sounds a bit grim, but it’s true.  So floss and brush. It’s that simple.

Best thing about working at Clinic95?  It is such a technologically advanced practice with the best equipment around.  I can attend a professional course and then immediately apply the skills I’ve learned using the facilities already available at the practice.

When I’m not at work I love to travel - and I love hearing of patient’s experiences travelling. I get to meet a lot of fascinating people, I feel like I’ve travelled the world with their tales. Some people lead incredibly interesting lives!

Job Title:
  Reception Manager
Biography:

Marketing Manager

I originally trained as a beauty therapist and hold a diploma in anatomy and physiology and a degree in spa and salon management from Derby University. I started at Clinic 95 as a trainee dental nurse and then changed over to the admin department.

I do really love meeting all the new people who come through the clinic.  And I absolutely adore helping with the ‘Fast and Fixed’ cases - the transformations are incredible to see.

Best thing about working at Clinic 95? We’re like a big family here and I hope that comes across to the patients - that this is a truly warm and friendly environment to be in - no grumpy dentists doing scary things!  Our staff is so knowledgeable and patient and passionate about what they’re doing.  And it’s great for me to see all to new and inventive dental treatments - it’s so interesting.

If I wasn’t doing this I think events coordinator might have been another path for me - I love a party!
And on the flip side, I’d run a mile if I had to do anything like pest control...  I am NOT good with bugs.

Celebrity teeth seem to be big news at the moment - there’s always something who has had their teeth done well (or done badly, in some cases).  I think the nicest are Cheryl’s (Fernandez or whatever her name is now!).

My favourite dental quote? You don’t have to brush all your teeth... just the ones you want to keep.

When I’m not at work, you’ll find me either running, or in a spin, yoga, or boxing class.  And after all that strenuous stuff, you’ll find me socialising with friends - my absolute favourite thing to do.

Clinic Receptionist

I’ve worked in customer service throughout my career, but I’m finding being here at Clinic95 particularly satisfying – especially when I get to see the end result, whether it’s a new smile, or simply helping to get someone out of pain.

But the absolute best thing about working at Clinic95 is that everyone is so friendly!

My one best piece of advice to patients about their teeth is to just look after them – they’re the only set you’ll get.

At the other end of the scale, one of the things people do to their teeth that makes me cringe is
tearing sellotape with their teeth – that stuff is stronger than you think and mother nature designed your front teeth for biting food, not plastic.

When I’m not at work I love to bake - my lemon drizzle cake is pretty good if I say so myself (it never stays around long), although my chocolate beetroot brownies are my speciality.  And when I’m not baking, you’ll find me pottering about on my allotment.

Something that most people doesn’t know about me is that I’ve completed a basic plumbing course, and actually really enjoyed it.  My car only passes its MOT if vast sums of money change hands, so maybe a car mechanic course is next!

I'm looking forward to meeting you soon and welcoming you to Clinic95.

Biography:

Hello, I’m Jo.  As I’m the reception and administration manager here at Clinic95, I could be the first person you see when you visit us.  I’m a natural people person, so I really look forward to meeting you.

I initially started my career in hairdressing and enjoyed the reception side of the job, seeing clients regularly welcoming them to the salon and building a genuine rapport. I started working in the dental industry in 2007 and throughout my time, I have worked in various administration roles and have really enjoyed providing an exceptional

customer service experience to each individual.

By far the most satisfying part of my job is watching nervous, anxious patients become fully confident and changing their perception of dentistry.

When I'm not at work, my absolute favourite thing to do is simply spend time with my boyfriend, family and friends.

I look forward to seeing you soon.

Job Title:

Biography:
Hello, I’m Natalie! I am very happy to join the team here at Clinic 95.
Originally from Edinburgh, earlier this year I relocated to Oxford where i work full time.
My role at Clinic 95 is both a dental hygienist and dental therapist. A dental therapist is able to carry out the same treatment as a hygienist as well as treatment that your dentist has prescribed, such as fillings, teeth whitening and x-rays as well as carrying out a wide range of children’s dentistry.
I started in this profession 10 years ago as a trainee dental nurse back home in Edinburgh. It was then that I found my passion for patient care and I knew then I wanted to progress further in my career. The most rewarding part of my job is helping patients, especially when it comes to overcome their fears and anxieties.
I get asked a lot about mouthwash and which one patients should be using, and the short answer is, mouthwash is a myth! Unless specifically recommended to you by your dental care professional to target a specific problem, please don't waste your money.
I currently use the Oral-B Genius 9000 electric toothbrush and Sensodyne rapid relief toothpaste which I find really helps with my cold sensitivity, so I’m sticking with the one that works for me. I also use tepe brushes every day for my interdental cleaning which I do in the morning as this can be such a chore at the end of the day.
My Favourite dental quote is "Be true to your teeth, or they will be false to you."
I'm looking forward to meeting you.

Mr Rishi Patel

Job Title:

Languages:

Biography:

Hi, I’m Rishi.

I graduated from King’s College London in 2005. Following this I went on to complete a vocational training post in North London and Charing Cross hospital.

I then spent 4 years in general practice in West London, carrying out all aspects of dentistry but focusing on cosmetic procedures.

Over the last 8 years I have worked in a private dental practice with in house specialists.

The most frequent question I have been asked over the years has been- How can I prevent future dental problems?

And this is what I advise;

There are many aspects to prevention of dental disease such as:

1. Diet - cutting down on sugary food and drink

2. Oral hygiene - importance of brushing correctly, using floss and seeing dental hygienists

3. Fluoride - using fluoridated toothpastes/mouthwashes

4. Maintenance - need to see dentists and hygienists regularly, ideally 6 monthly

5. Smoking cessation

I feel dentistry is the perfect profession in bringing together science, medicine & healthcare, technology, art, beauty, communication and imagination!

Cosmetic dentistry - I believe in listening to patients, understanding their wishes, and addressing their needs to the highest standards.

High patient satisfaction and meeting patient expectations gives me great pleasure. With cosmetic procedure these can easily be seen with before and after photos - with impressive results! A smiling happy patient is a great reward for the hard work I’ve put in!

“The absolute worst thing people do to their teeth is ignoring a problem and here’s why?”

I have met many patients that have admitted to an ongoing dental issue but have delayed visiting the dentist for one reason or another. The most common reason being dental phobia. This is understandable, but I would like to reassure you that modern day dental procedures should not be painful with the advances of effective anaesthesia.

Really look forward to meeting you.

Job Title:
  Receptionist
Biography:

Hi I’m Fran and I am part of the Reception Team here at Clinic 95.

Previously I trained as a dental nurse but after working on an extraction – I soon decided the job may not be for me!

Over the years since, I have worked in childcare and with Jaguar and Land Rover. I am a people person and love interacting with the public.

When the position came up for a dental receptionist at Clinic 95 I jumped at the chance- combining my interest for dental, patient care and working in admin is just right up my street.
I have a piece of dental advice for you passed onto me from our very own hygienist Natalie… always make sure you floss. – And I am not talking about the dance move!
Dance I hear you say…. This may surprise you, I once placed 2nd in the European Irish Dance championship.
Although I loved all the jewels and glitz the dancing world had to offer I have to say I am not a fan of tooth gems! I personally think it’s the absolute worst thing people can do to their smile.
Outside of work I enjoy eating Indian food, spending time with my boyfriend, family and friends.
