A dental Implant is a replacement for the root or roots of a missing tooth. Like tooth roots, dental implants are secured into the jawbone and are not visible once surgically placed. Implants are made of titanium, which is strong, lightweight and biocompatible, this means that it is not rejected by the body. Titanium is the most widely used metal in both dental and other bone implants, such as orthopaedic joint replacements. Implant surgery is a minor surgical procedure performed under local anaesthetic.
