Dentistry

Air Abrasion
A minimally invasive and drill-less technique to remove tooth decay - it acts like a mini-sandblaster to spray away decay. A fine spray of particles is aimed at the tooth - no noise, no vibration, no injection.

Dental Bridges

Bridgework

A bridge is a fixed dental appliance replacing one or more missing teeth. They can be used to improve function and appearance.

Dental Checkup

New Patient Dental Examination

Routine Dental Examination

Dental Crowns

Crowns are used to rebuild broken or decayed teeth and can be used to improve the cosmetic appearance of a tooth. Discovery Dental Care offer a variety of crowns:

Metal Ceramic Crowns - tooth coloured porcelain fused to metal. Less aesthetic than all ceramic crowns.

All Ceramic Crowns - no metal, very aesthetic. These have a zirconium or alumina base which gives them outstanding strength.

Full Gold Crowns - extremely strong but not aesthetic.

Dentures

Acrylic Dentures
We offer a range of high standard acrylic full and partial dentures.

Flexible Partial Dentures
Valplast Dentures are flexible partial dentures. They are less bulky than conventional acrylic dentures, do not require unsightly metal clasps, and are virtually invisible in the mouth. They are made from unbreakable nylon fibre, and come with a lifetime guarantee.

Extractions

Fillings

Amalgam Filling
Silver Amalgam fillings are the basic fillings which are available on the NHS. Many people opt for composite/white fillings (see below) for teeth which can be seen when speaking or smiling.

White Filling
White/composite fillings (mercury free) are an aesthetic alternative to silver amalgam filings. If you have dark or discoloured fillings that are noticeable when smiling or laughing you may consider getting them changed to white fillings.

Gingivitis Treatment

Gum Surgery
Electrosurgery is a precise application of heat to allow controlled cutting of soft tissues. There is immediate haemostasis (stops bleeding) and the wound is virtually painless after the procedure.
This technique can be used to reshape gum margins for an improved cosmetic appearance and to remove excess tissues to allow teeth to be restored which may be otherwise unrestorable. Local anaesthetic is given for this procedure.

HealOzone™ Treatment
Discovery Dental Care is one of the few practices in Scotland to offer HealOzone treatment. In some circumstances it can slow down or stop decay before filings are required. If fillings are required it can reduce or eliminate the need for local anaesthetic and drilling.

Hygienist Session
Preventative dentistry is an important part of routine dental care which we provide in conjunction with our hygienist. Advice on tooth brushing, interdental cleaning, mouthwashes, and diet advice are extremely important to help reduce and prevent gum disease and decay. We also offer HealOzone treatment which can help stop small lesions developing and prevent fillings.

Inlay or Onlay

Periodontitis Treatment

Root canals
Root Treatment is needed when the blood or nerve supply (pulp) of the tooth is infected through decay or trauma. This leads to an abscess, which is an inflamed area where pus collects and causes pain and swelling. The aim of root treatment is to remove the infection from the root canal. The root is then cleaned and filled to prevent further infection.

Veneers
Dental veneers are a thin layer of porcelain made to fit over the front surface of a tooth, like a false fingernail fits over a nail. Veneers can improve the colour, shape and position of your teeth.
