Dr Fiona Bailey

Job Title:
  Dentist
Biography:
She brings over 20 years’ experience to her role (and your teeth). Graduating from the University of Otago in 1990, Fiona spent a year at Waikato Hospital followed by appointments at group practices in Cambridge (England), Hamilton (Dental Excellence) and Auckland. Born and raised in Hamilton, Fiona returned permanently to her hometown in 2006. Since then she has worked at Hillcrest Dental Centre and Rototuna Dental. You may have also met Fiona when she stood in for Margaret Thomson at Relax Dental or for Zaf here at Dental Excellence. A dedicated member of the profession, Fiona has been the Secretary of the Waikato Bay of Plenty Branch of the NZ Dental Association for the last 6 years. She loves the endless challenge that dentistry brings and believes that a positive experience at the dentist ensures lifelong dental health. She aims to make you feel as relaxed as possible during treatment. Her skill and gentle approach combine to deliver excellent results for you and your family. Married with a teenage son and a daughter, she is a dedicated gardener and enjoys skiing, walking, reading and watching her family compete in swimming, cycling and multi-sport events.

Dr Zaf Khouri

Job Title:
  Dentist
Biography:
BDS, Grad Dip Forensic Odont, FFOMP (RCPA), FNZSP. He has a gentle manner – a soft touch – but is uncompromisingly exact in his clinical work. His areas of professional interest include restorative dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, crown and bridge dentistry and oral surgery. He is certified to provide intravenous conscious sedation, and receives referrals from many colleagues for minor oral surgical procedures, such as removing impacted wisdom teeth. This is a very helpful service if you require this sort of treatment but have limited/no health insurance cover and cannot afford specialist fees. A past Treasurer & past Secretary of the Waikato Bay of Plenty Branch of the NZ Dental Association, he is also a member of the NZ Society for Anaesthesia and Sedation in Dentistry and involved in several organisations focused on forensic dentistry. Forensic dentistry is an area of special interest for Zaf, a founding member of the New Zealand Society of Forensic Odontology, he is also a past President of that Society. Zaf is also a member of the Australian and New Zealand Forensic Science Society and the American Society of Forensic Odontology. He is a Fellow of the Faculty of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathologists of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (FFOMP(RCPA)) and a Fellow of the NZ Society of Pathologists (FNZSP). He is happily married to Cathy Khouri, a well known and highly respected clinical dietitian. They have three adult daughters, to whom they are both devoted.

Dr Sarah Underwood

Job Title:
  Dentist
Biography:
BDS Distinction. You may know she has recently married. Dr Sarah Underwood graduated, with distinction, from Otago University in 2012. She then spent 2013 at Waikato Hospital working in the Dental and Maxillofacial Department alongside the oral maxillofacial surgeons. Working at the hospital has given Sarah great experience in a wide range of dentistry and surgery. Her areas of interest include restorative dentistry, crown and bridge work, and endodontic treatment. She also has an interest in dental trauma and oral surgery and has treated many patients with complex medical conditions. Having grown up in the Waikato, Sarah is excited about the opportunity to “come home” to a familiar place and familiar faces. She enjoys sport and travelling, and has spent time doing triathlons and other running events and enjoys playing volleyball and netball. Her passion is to create healthy smiles by balancing the art and science of dentistry. She hopes to make her patients feel comfortable and relaxed during appointments and her goal is to help her patients maintain stable oral health through prevention, treatment and knowledge.
