Great Clinic. Very popular hence long waiting lists but the Receptionist will always fit you in early using the Cancellation lists. Very good diagnostic and all Treatments use the latest technologies and are excellent, we had most of them over the years. My, I and family have been using Alexandra Dental for 12 years. They are wonderful with children and have the TV on the ceilings for them to watch during treatments. Highly recommended.

I was very satisfied

4.5 50 Dentist Consultation
Were you pleased with the treatment?

I only had a consultation, and I was very satisfied. I have an unusual jaw problem that my regular dentist couldn't get his head around. The dentist at Alexandra took me seriously and referred me to an occlusion specialist. I didn't know there was such a speciality!

I haven't heard anything yet from the specialist yet (one week later), but I have high hopes of getting my problem sorted.

Would you recommend the clinic?

I haven't had any experience with the actual treatment, but they certainly tick the boxes on the human factors. I also made a mistake with the time on the appointment, and I had to reschedule at very short notice. The receptionist was brilliant about it. She was entitled to be cross with me because it was my fault, but she was really nice about it.

Would you return for further treatment?

The dentist I saw said that the specialist would be able to give a treatment prescription, and I could come back to the dentist to get the work done. This would save travel time and money. If this works out, I will return to get the treatment done.

Dental Bridges

A bridge will permanently replace one of more missing teeth. It does not need to be taken out of the mouth like a denture. Closing the space is important for cosmetic reasons. In addition leaving the gap open can put a strain on the teeth either side. It can also affect your "bite" – the teeth on either side of the gap may lean together into the space and alter the way that the upper and lower teeth meet; which can in turn cause a number of other problems. A dental bridge should last for many years. The life expectancy of any bridge is greatly influenced by factors under your own control, such as your diet and how well you look after your teeth.

Dental Crowns

A crown covers, or "caps", a tooth to restore its normal shape and size. It will provide full coverage of the underlying tooth hence strengthening and improving the appearance of a tooth. Crowns are necessary when a tooth is extensively broken down. If a tooth is cracked it is often is the only treatment option available. It will hold the tooth together and protect it so the damage doesnt get worse. If a tooth has been root treated we may often recommend a crown as the resulting tooth will be weak, brittle and liable to fracture.

Dental Implants

A dental implant is an artificial tooth that is surgically placed into your jawbone The benefit of using implants is that they don't rely on neighboring teeth for support, they are permanent and stable. Implants are a good solution to tooth loss because they look and feel like natural teeth. Implant material is made from different types of metallic and bone-like ceramic materials that are compatible with body tissue.

Fillings

Tooth Coloured filling material is called composite. They are similar in colour and texture to natural teeth. A "Direct" Composite filling is a tooth colored filling that is done in a single office visit. It is most appropriate for small restorations. The composite material is bonded to the tooth structure allowing conservation of as much natural tooth structure as possible. Direct Composite fillings are not for every tooth. They work best in small restorations and low-stress areas. Therefore they are not always suitable to fill large cavities at the back of the mouth. They are also more costly than silver fillings because they take longer to place. Research has shown that they do not last as long as other restorations.

Inlay or Onlay

Porcelain and Composite Inlays are more appropriate for larger restorations. These are “indirect” white fillings which are constructed outside of the mouth and cemented into place. They are much stronger and more durable than white fillings placed directly into the cavity. They will last almost as long as silver fillings but with the advantage of being much more aesthetic.

Root canals

Root canal treatment is the preferred way to treat an infection in the nerve center of the tooth, known as the pulp. The pulp is the soft, inner core of the tooth that consists of blood vessels, nerves, and connective tissue. When the pulp is diseased or injured and cant repair itself, it dies. The most common cause of pulp death is a cracked tooth or a deep cavity. Both of these problems can let bacteria enter the pulp. Bacteria can cause an infection inside the tooth. Left without treatment, pus builds up at the root tip, in the jawbone, forming a "pus-pocket" called an abscess. Usually pain and swelling will result. Without treatment, your tooth may have to be removed. The aim of the treatment is to remove all infection from the root canal. The root is then cleaned and filled to prevent any further infection. Root canal treatment is a skilled and time-consuming procedure. Most courses of treatment will involve two or more visits to your dentist. At the first appointment, the infected pulp is removed. The root canal is then cleaned and shaped ready for the filling using thin files (as seen in the first x-ray). A temporary filling is put in and the tooth is left to settle. The tooth is checked at a later visit and when all the infection has cleared, the tooth is permanently filled. About 90 percent of root canals are successful and the pain does not return. However, sometimes a root canal needs to be redone or the tooth extracted.
