What is a Dental Implant?

Dental implants are artificial screws made of titanium or zirconium oxide that connect the jawbone and a dental restoration like a crown or denture. They are also called ‘endosseous’ implants or fixtures. They are an artificial tooth root. Once implanted, the implant integrates with the surrounding bone like part of the body. Dental surgeons perform bone grafting procedures to hold the implant in place for patients who do not have enough surrounding bone structure, or graft bone to help connect implants to the maxillary sinuses on either side of the nose when placing dental implants in the upper jaw.

How long does it take to fit a Dental Implant?

The time taken for inserting dental implants depends on the bone structure and needs of each individual patient. Some implant procedures take about 15 minutes while others may take up to two hours. Implant procedures are performed under local anaesthesia. Intravenous sedation is used for the comfort of anxious patients.

How long does it take to recover after getting a Dental Implant?

Recovery time after a dental implant procedure may take four to six weeks or up to 12 weeks for some patients. Patients can travel one day after the insertion of a single dental implant. Patients who require multiple dental implants or supporting surgical procedures should wait for around two weeks before travelling. They should meet the dental surgeon to get a certification of being fit to travel before embarking on their journey.

What should I do after getting a Dental Implant?

Patients should rest and avoid exertion after surgery. They should also avoid vigorously brushing their teeth or rinsing their mouth.

What are the alternatives to Dental Implants?

Alternatives to dental implants include fixed bridges and dentures.

The Diamond Dental Practice

Rating from 3 Reviews Would definitely recommend this practiceImelda, Clones, 06 Dec 14

I was extremely pleased with the service that I received during my treatments. At the initial consultation I was given a print out of the list of treatments that needed to be carried out, which was very clear. It was also stated clearly that there may be deviations to the treatments received, which I accepted as no one can predict what might crop up during the treatments, as it did in my case as I developed an abscess a number of weeks into the treatments, which had to be dealt with. Dr Allen took the time to explore very given avenue to ensure the abscess was removed and that the tooth was saved. I went to Dr. Allen with my teeth front and back in an extremely poor state and hadn't been able to smile fully for at least 6 years previously. He saved teeth where I thought there was no hope and completely transformed them so that I can smile again with confidence. I had work completed on 17 teeth, 7 extractions and 10 fillings and I can say with confidence that I had virtually no discomfort or pain throughout the whole treatment. The cost of the treatment was very reasonable as I had expected to pay a whole lot more and pales into comparison to the quality of life that the treatment has given me. The Staff at the Practice were very friendly and helpful and getting an appointment was stress free. Dr. Allen himself is very friendly, professional and explained before every treatment what exactly was going to happen be it an extraction or filling. He carried out the treatments in a rotation that ensured the least amount of discomfort to me. Would definitely recommend this practice.

The clinic area is clean and professionalFrancis, Celbridge, 03 Jan 13

teeth cleaning and two fillings Both the dental assistant and Ciaran were very welcoming and friendly. I had a clean and two fillings which went well. The signs up to the practice (i.e. once you enter the alleyway) and the entrance could be improved. The waiting area is comfortable if a little oddly furnished. The clinic area is clean and professional. I got a teeth cleaning for free, which was good, and the price seems to be reasonable for the work done. All in all I'll return to get work done here in the future.
