Dr. Cyr completed his dental and Oral and Maxillofacial training at Dalhousie University by 1979. He has focused his practice in the area of surgical correction of Skeletal Dentofacial Deformities and Surgical repair of Temporomandibular Joint Disorders. Dr. Cyr has been in private practice as an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon for 28 years.
Dr. Cyr is the founding officer of Scotia Surgery Inc. and a principal shareholder and director. Dr. Cyr is a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists, Canada, Fellow of the International College of Dentists, Fellow of the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, Member of Canadian Dental Association, and Member of Nova Scotia and Newfoundland Dental Associations. He is also Past President, Nova Scotia Dental Association, Past President, Canadian Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, Past Examiner, Royal College of Dentists, Canada, and Past Assistant Professor, Dalhousie University (OMFS). Dr. Marco Chiarot is a Board Certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon with degrees in both Medicine and Dentistry. He received his dental degree from Dalhousie University in 1993 and then went on to study Hospital Dentistry at the Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina and then on to Milwaukee, Wisconsin to complete an internship in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Returning to Halifax and Dalhousie University in 1995, he completed a six year residency in the specialty of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre (2001). During his specialty training, he also completed a Masters of Science degree in Oral and Maxillofacial Sciences and his Medical Degree (2001). After completing his specialty training, Dr. Chiarot left Canada to study Head and Neck Cancer Surgery and Cleft Lip and Palate Surgery at the San Paolo Hospital in Milan, Italy.
Returning to his home town of Halifax in 2002, Dr. Chiarot entered into Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery private practice with the OMS Consultants group

Dr Joel Powell

A native of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Dr. Joel Powell received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery training at Dalhousie University from 1994-1998, during which time he also completed his Bachelor degree in Computing Science (BSc). He then completed a one-year post-graduate General Practice Residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland where he gained experience in oral surgery, anaesthesia, and caring for medically compromised patients. Despite being offered a faculty position in Dentistry at Johns Hopkins, he decided to pursue a specialty career in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) and completed a one-year OMFS Internship at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia in 2000 to gain a broad experience in the area prior to applying to post-doctoral residency programs.
Following this, Dr. Powell returned to Dalhousie University for his specialty training, where he completed the 6-year program in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, obtaining both a Masters degree (MSc) and a Doctorate of Medicine (MD). Upon completion, he pursued further advanced training and returned to Emory University and the Atlanta VA Medical Center in Atlanta for a Fellowship. Here he received advanced instruction and experience in all areas of general OMFS, with a special focus on implant therapy, facial cosmetic surgery, and maxillofacial trauma. Dr. Powell successfully completed the Royal College of Dentists of Canada Fellowship examinations in OMFS in 2006, is an active member in several national and international professional organizations related to his profession, and maintains active licensure in both Canada and the United States.

Dr. Peter Stirling graduated from Lakefield College School in 1962 and went to Dalhousie University in Halifax. Here he took two years of science and was accepted into Dalhousie Dental School. While in Dentistry he was awarded several prizes and scholarships and graduated in 1968.
Dr. Stirling served in the Canadian Dental Corps and served in Ottawa, Esquimalt B.C., and at sea on H.M.C.S. Provider. While at sea he traveled to Fiji , Australia and New Zealand. Upon return to Canada Peter left the Dental Corps and started Post Graduate training at the Victoria General Hospital in Halifax. After graduation in 1976 he practiced in Saint John, New Brunswick until his return to Halifax in 1983. He was an instructor in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery for a period of time at Dalhousie University School of Dentistry.
Dr. Stirling has his fellowship in the Royal College of Dentists of Canada and is a member of the CAOMS. He is also an affiliate member of both the AAOMS and ACOMS professional associations, as well as a member of the Halifax County Dental Society and the Dental Specialists of Nova Scotia, both of which he is Past President.

Dr. Louis Bourget received his Bsc in Physiology in 1983. Continued his research on enzyme treatment for the inborn error of metabolism PKU to complete is PhD at McGill University by 1986. Accepted in an undergraduate Dental program at McGill University until 1990. A year of medical/dental internship allowed him to enter a maxillofacial program at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. His training was completed by 1995. He received his fellowship (FRCD (C)) in the same year. He was in France for a fellowship in Cleft Lip and Palate reconstruction and Facial cosmetics.
Advanced courses in facial reconstruction were also taken at the Mayo clinic and in Sweden, Michigan, St. Louis, San Francisco, Florida and Vienna. He followed a facial cosmetic fellowship in North Carolina. He is also a fellow of the international association of Oral and Maxillofacial surgeons. He has an active practice in Bathurst, NB and has been involved with facial reconstruction & rehabilitation since 1995.
He is the author of many scientific papers and has presented extensively in National and International meeting on Cleft lip and palate and facial reconstruction. He has been intensively involved in provincial development of oral & maxillofacial surgery and has been involved with implant rehabilitation training, facial cosmetic and facial trauma / reconstruction. He is current advanced cardiac life support instructor (ACLS). He is an active staff at the Bathurst Regional Hospital and the Eastern Health district in Newfoundland. He maintains a private practice in the full scope of oral and facial reconstruction & facial cosmetic surgery in Bathurst with satellite practices in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland.
Cosmetic surgery required additional years of hospital-based training. Dr. Bourget manages a wide variety of problems relating to the face. He practices a full scope of cosmetic surgery with expertise in reconstructive and facial cosmetic surgery.
