Bone Grafting
When a tooth is extracted the healing process often results in some loss of the bone that used to support that tooth. Bone grafting is used to restore the lost bone dimension when the jaw ridge gets too thin to properly support an implant. Although a bone graft can be placed several months before the implant is procedure, at BDS we prefer to place the bone graft at the time of implant placement wherever possible to minimise the number of procedures and costs to our patients. Once the bone graft material is placed under the gum, it heals much like an arm or leg in a cast. With proper care, in 4-6 months, the bone becomes strong as the original bone that was originally there.

Crown Lengthening
Crown lengthening can be recommended to make a restorative or cosmetic dental procedure possible.

Dental Implants
Dental implants are titanium screws that are placed in the jaw bone to replace missing tooth roots. Following a period of healing they are then restored with crowns and or bridges or may be used to help support a denture. Titanium is used, as many years of research has shown that it integrates with the surrounding bone.

Guided Tissue Regeneration
The treatment of periodontal disease generally involves to stopping of the disease process and preventing it from starting again in the future. None of this, however, does anything to restore the mouth to its previous condition. The aim of Guided Tissue Bone Regeneration is to “regenerate” the previously lost gum and bone tissue. Most techniques utilize membranes, which are inserted over the bone defects. Some of these membranes are bio-absorbable and some require removal. Other regenerative procedures involve the use of bioactive gels.

Cosmetic Periodontal Surgery
These procedures are a predictable way to cover unsightly, sensitive or exposed root surfaces and to prevent future gum recession. If you are unhappy with the appearance of short unsightly teeth this can be greatly improved by a combination of periodontal procedures by the periodontists at BDS and cosmetic dentistry by your dentist.

Teeth Cleaning

Scaling and Root Planing
In most cases the treatment for periodontal disease is a thorough cleaning that may include scaling or root planing. The objective of these non-surgical procedures is to remove dental plaque and tartar, or calculus, which cause gingival inflammation and disease. The outcome of this approach is to reduce the amount of irritant below the gum and allows the gum tissue to heal and repair as much as possible.
