Dental Bridges
A bridge, also called a “fixed bridge” or a “fixed dental prosthesis,” is a dental restoration that replaces one or more missing teeth. It extends across an area that has no teeth and is typically made up of an artificial tooth fused between 2 crowns. (A crown is a hollow, artificial tooth that fits over a natural tooth or a dental implant). The bridge is held firmly in place by your own teeth on each side of the missing one(s), or by dental implants. Your dentist at Greenway Dental will first determine if a bridge is the right solution to your problem, and recommend the most appropriate one depending on the location of the missing tooth (or teeth) and the condition of your teeth, mouth and gums.

Dental Crowns
A crown, also called a cap, is a hollow, artificial tooth used to cover a damaged, broken, or decayed tooth. You may also need a crown if you have a weak tooth from root canal treatment, or a large filling. The crown restores the tooth form and function and protects it from further damage. Crowns can also be used to cover a discoloured or misshapen tooth. A tooth that has been fixed with a crown looks and works very much like a natural tooth. Crowns are strong and generally last for about 10 years or longer if you take good care of them. Brush and floss your crown, just like you clean your natural teeth. Regular dental visits and professional cleanings are very important for longevity.

Dental Implants
A dental implant is an artificial root made of titanium metal. It is inserted into the jawbone to replace the root of the natural tooth. An artificial replacement tooth (crown/cap) is attached to the implant. The implant acts as an anchor to hold the replacement tooth in place.

Extractions
Wisdom teeth (third molars) are usually the last teeth to erupt. If the jaw does not have enough room for the wisdom teeth to erupt the tooth will become impacted. Often one or more wisdom teeth will cause problems and should be extracted.

Fillings
There are several different types of fillings that can be used to fill a cavity, but any tooth requiring a filling replacing more than 50% of the tooth structure is best treated with a crown. The final decision on which type of filling is placed in your mouth is yours alone.

Hygienist Session
Everyone needs regular preventive dental exams. Even if you are diligent about brushing and flossing, your teeth and gums still need regular care from a dental professional. How often you go for a dental exam depends on your oral health needs. The goal is to catch small problems early. For most people, this means a dental exam every six months. Your dentist may suggest that you visit more or less often depending on how well you care for your teeth and gums.

Mouth Guard
A properly made custom fitted mouthguard can help prevent broken teeth and injuries to the lips, tongue, face or jaw.

Periodontitis Treatment
Periodontitis can be treated when you remove the plaque and calculus with professional cleanings by a dental hygienist or referral to a Periodontist (gum specialist). Daily brushing, flossing, interproximal cleaning, and using an ADA endorsed mouthwash is also required to treat periodontitis.

Root canals
Root canal treatment, also known as endodontic treatment, is the process of removing infected, injured, or dead pulp from your tooth. Successful root canal treatment lets you keep the tooth rather than having to pull it out. Many millions of teeth each year are saved from extraction by having root canal treatment.

Sedation for dental treatments
Penthrox is the newest form of anxiety relief. You may have seen it used by paramedics. Your dentist will give you a small inhaler or “green whistle” to hold up to the mouth and breath through. You will keep the inhaler in your hand throughout the appointment and inhale the gas mixture as required. Penthrox will make you very relaxed and provide pain relief. A close friend or family will need to drive you home after the appointment.

Teeth Whitening
Tooth whitening is a safe procedure when done by a qualified dental professional. Individuals considering tooth whitening should contact Greenway Dental to talk to a dental professional to determine whether tooth whitening will have the desired result.

Veneers
Veneers are often made of porcelain or composite resin. Porcelain veneers are stronger than composite resin veneers and do not change colour or stain. Generally, porcelain veneers take at least 2 dental visits to apply and composite resin veneers can be done in 1 visit.
