Many patients of Dr. Loessin find it impossible to lose fat deposits and firm excess skin around their midsections. Luckily, there is a solution at our practice in Key West, Florida – an abdominoplasty, often called a “tummy tuck.”
A tummy tuck is a cosmetic procedure intended to give you sleeker, more defined abs. For patients who have recently given birth or had bariatric surgery, a tummy tuck can also reduce the appearance of stretch marks and remove extra skin.
During tummy tuck surgery, an incision is made from hip to hip, and the skin is separated from the abdominal muscles. The muscles are tightened, the waistline is narrowed, and the midsection is flattened. The flap of skin is then folded down and the excess skin is removed. Lastly, the flap is replaced, and the incision is stitched closed. The entire tummy tuck procedure takes between two and five hours, depending on the amount of work needed.
The most common side effects of tummy tuck surgery are bruising and swelling, which typically subside within 10 days.
