Biography:
Dr Felicia Tan graduated with a Bachelor in Medicine and Surgery from the National University of Singapore. She has more than 10 years of clinical experience. She received her post-graduate training as a general surgeon at the National Cancer Centre Singapore and Singapore General Hospital and chose to subspecialize in breast surgery. She served as an associate consultant in Kerdang Kerbau Womens’ and Childrens’ Hospital and as a consultant surgeon in Raffles Hospital prior to starting her own practice at Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre. She is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh) and received her specialist accreditation in General Surgery in Singapore. She continues to serve as a visiting consultant to the Breast Department at KK women's and children's Hospital where she is involved in training of medical students, fellows and trainee surgeons. Her clinical interest lies in treatment of breast cancer and the use of various surgical techniques to achieve the best oncologic and cosmetic outcome for her patients. This includes breast conservation surgery (lumpectomy) for cancers as well as nipple- and skin-sparing mastectomies with immediate breast reconstruction. She is also adept with the whole range of breast surgical procedures including vacuum assisted biopsies for breast lesions. She is the pioneer of the procedure radioisotope occult lesion localization (ROLL) in Singapore – which is used for locating non-palpable breast lesions and microcalcifications for surgical excision. She continues to perform the full range of general surgical operations. Her current research interests lies in breast oncology, especially in understanding breast cancer in young women. Her research background is in translational medicine, utilizing molecular and genetic profiling of tumour subtypes to identify biomarkers, which will assist in diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of cancer. She received the prestigious Singapore Millennium Foundation Scholarship in 2007 to pursue her research interests. Dr Felicia is actively involved in promoting breast cancer awareness. She is a committee member on various breast cancer support groups locally – The Breast Cancer Foundation (Singapore’s largest breast cancer support group) as well as Alpine Blossoms (KK Breast Unit’s support group lead by health care professionals for breast cancer survivors). She has also been invited to give lectures and public talks on breast cancer related issues both locally and internationally. She is a member of Bali’s international women's association, which is involved in promotion of breast cancer awareness and screening in Bali, Indonesia.

Dr Chee Keong Chong

Biography:
Dr Chong Chee Keong graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1993 and received his basic and advanced surgical training in Singapore General Hospital. He was made fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Glasgow and Edinburgh in 1998. Prior to joining FeM Surgery, he served as Senior Consultant and Director of Trauma Service and Surgical Intensive Care unit in Changi General Hospital. Dr Chong is the only doctor in Singapore with double specialization – in General Surgery as well as in Intensive Care. Dr Chong received his training in injury management from Ryder Trauma Centre in Miami, one of the busiest Level 1 trauma centres in the United States of America. During his time in Miami, he received specialized training in managing a wide variety of injuries, including complex injuries that required critical care. Upon his return to Singapore, he was given the mandate to establish the Trauma Centre in Changi General Hospital. He continues to serve as the Director of Trauma Services in Changi General Hospital. He has also accumulated vast experience in medical evacuations of critically ill patients from abroad to Singapore for further treatment. Besides his interest in Trauma management, Dr. Chong is also a breast surgeon with an established practice to manage the entire spectrum of breast conditions. He believes strongly in the holistic care of breast cancer patients and is adept in the range of breast surgeries including breast conservation, skin sparing mastectomies with breast reconstruction and minimally invasive breast biopsy methods.

Dr Yu-Meng Tan

Biography:
Dr Tan Yu-Meng graduated from the Charing Cross & Westiminster Medical School (now the Imperial College of Medicine) at the University of London with First Class Honors and Distinction in his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery in 1994. He went on to train in general surgery at Singapore General Hospital under his mentor Professor Soo Khee Chee and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh in 1999. During his surgical training, he received multiple awards including the Young Surgeons Award at the Asian Surgical Congress in 2001. With his interest in gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary-pancreatic (GI-HPB) surgery and the treatment of cancer, he joined the department of surgical oncology at the National Cancer Centre in 2003 as a consultant. He underwent further training in advanced HPB surgery and liver transplantation at the world reknown Liver Unit of Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, United Kingdom. Subsequently he furthered his skills in living donor liver transplantation under the guidance of Professor K Tanaka in Japan. Dr Tan was a founding member of the liver transplant team at Singapore General Hospital in 2005. He subsequently was appointed Deputy Head and Senior Consultant of the Department of Surgical Oncology at the National Cancer Centre, Singapore as well as the Surgical Director of the Liver Transplantation Programme at SGH in 2007. During this time, he led the team to perform the first successful split liver transplant at SGH and the first combined Heart- Liver Transplantation in Asia in 2009. His surgical interest also lies in the management of peritoneal surface malignancies and he led a multidisciplinary team from NCC to Washington Cancer Institute to adopt the techniques and protocols of peritonectomy and HIPEC (Sugarbaker procedure) from Dr Paul Sugarbaker in 2009. Dr Tan continues to be one of few surgeons in Asia who perform specialized surgery for peritoneal malignancies in Asia. During his surgical career, Dr Tan has been a strong proponent of academic surgery having published over 90 articles in leading surgical journals including the highest rated surgical journal the ‘Annals of Surgery’ as lead and corresponding author on a wide range of topics in surgical diseases. He was also examiner of the Royal college of Edinburgh and Yong Loo Lin School of medicine. Dr Tan left for private practice in May 2010 to pursue a more holistic and patient centric approach to surgical care and also to have a better work life balance for his family. He continues to contribute to public care as an active visiting consultant at the national cancer centre. In 2012, he has embarked on an exciting new venture as founder and chief surgeon of a new surgical group practice called ‘FeM Surgery’ at Parkway Hospitals. This is a multidisciplinary practice where his philosophy of team based approach comprising medical and allied health professionals for the best patient care will be adopted. He will lead the Gallstone Liver Centre @ FeM and the Cancer Surgery & Peritonectomy Centre @ FeM where patients with cancer and gallstones, liver and gastrointestinal diseases can obtain the best possible care.
