I was human hereRobin, Canada, 13 08 26After years of carrying a burden of questionable spots, Brent Howley MD-office simultaneously treated questions and concerns with equal care and precision as the procedure itself.
Upon crossing the threshold, there was no questioning where the office was located. This sleek signage rising from the main wall led directly to the main office glass doors. Beyond the separation, connected a warm reception from both Mylene and Christine. I was human here.
There were no numbers to take, nor a stale smell to cringe at, just a relaxing atmosphere. Created with intention by cosy furniture, you could sip your coffee while questioning if this was in fact a waiting room. The appreciation of the pause in recognising order within this space and processes solidified confidence in the overall office. This office would absolutely pass more than a mere white glove test.
Greeted by name and escorted by Joise, who has a natural way of connecting with people, reassuring any questions or concerns about the next steps. As I braced myself for the dreaded johnny shirt, I was handed a robe; soft, cosy, next level to the five-star hotels. How did I get so fortunate to then be met with such dignity? Dr Brent Howley, who first entered with business casual attire, released the tension held in my shoulders by presenting the opportunity to meet the man behind the scrubs. Certainly, he would have been unrecognisable in what could be this year's Halloween costume with work gear, such as scrubs, a surgical cap, mask, super bionic goggles, etc.
His care was reflected in his specific attention to detail with his clients. Not just quieting anxiety but removing the barrier completely. He mapped out each spot while putting to bed any concerns, which at this point were zero. This is why taking time saves time. As Doctor Howley excused himself to dress for the procedure, he left me in the hands of his nurse, Morgan, who began prepping and walked me through each step by communicating what was entailed as she continued to prep me for the removal. There were no surprises and, in a flash, I was in the company of incredible professionals chatting about everyday life.
I left the office weightless, knowing these spots were no longer velcroed to my life no matter the pathology outcome. Two additional things to note: the impeccable bandages were not typical pressured plasters but sleek, light, zero discomfort or skin irritation works of art. Post-Op Mepilex Border. They stayed intact for the duration requested, as per the aftercare instructions.
Secondly, the V-cuts were finished with a neat closure and sutures with strength to match each CrossFit Moncton class, remaining intact until their removal post-op. Fortunately, for my situation, there was no need to sacrifice my wellness outlet during healing.
Lastly, a physical copy of aftercare instructions, including what to watch out for and who to call should any concerns arise. This erased any “what ifs” from taking over the overwhelming sense of relief of this celebratory moment.
This all came together because of the matricula planning and organisational mastery of Lyndsay, office manager.
I would like to thank Dr Howley for choosing New Brunswick as your home to serve in. There will always be a call for doctors, but you do not put quantity before quality when it comes to patient care.
Thank you,
Robin Christie
