I had a hip replacement operation in KCM in March 2017. I emailed the clinic and got a telephone call back very soon after. I was desperate to have the operation done as I was in so much pain and the waiting list in Ireland was a minimum of 14 months to 2 years. The cost of having it done privately was out of my reach in Ireland but at KCM in Poland, it was much more affordable. The manager gave me all the information over the phone and emailed everything to me. He spoke perfect English and was able to give me the contact number of the HSE Cross Border Directive as he had dealt with them before.
I highly recommend this hospital for not just its surgical excellence, but also the excellence of their administrative staff. The Irish HSE has yet to pay me back for my medical costs. They have asked for so many details and several times I've had to ask the admin staff at KCM to resend information to me. This has not been a problem for KCM and I wish the HSE were as competent as the staff at KCM.
My experience from the very first contact was impecable. All I had to do was arrange my flights. Everything else was arranged by the admin staff at KCM. I was collected from the airport, driven to my hotel which was booked by KCM and collected the following day for my pre-op check-ups. A personal English speaking assistant was assigned to me, immediately on my arrival to the hospital. She accompanied me to Xray, surgeon, heart specialist, blood, etc. The pre-op checks were very thorough and everything was explained to me so well that it took a lot of the worry and stress away from me and allowed me to relax.
The next morning I was again collected by the driver. He helped me check out of the hotel and check into the hospital. Again I was met by my personal assistant, she took me to my room, showed me around and introduced me to the nurses who all spoke English. The anesthetist came to my room and explained exactly how he would take care of me during the operation, he was Spanish, but also spoke English. He was so lovely in the operating theater too, as I was going under the anesthetic. I had the operation late in the afternoon. I was very well attended during the first 24hrs with checks being made on me every hour.
The surgeon came in the morning after the operation and explained what he had done, how the op had gone and was very happy with my progress, as was I. The recovery was amazingly quick, I was walking within 24hrs with the aid of a walking frame and with the aid of crutches within a couple of days. The physio was brilliant, from day one to day ten. When I got back to Dublin the Physiotherapist had emailed me all my exercises so I could continue at home.
My GP in Ireland was amazed at my recovery, my physio signed me off after 5 months of weekly visits. I'm back wearing my nice shoes and walking without sticks or crutches, driving is easier and most importantly, I'm out of pain! Thank you so much to all the doctors, nurses and staff of KCM. I know that in the event of needing surgery again, KCM will be my first choice.
