"More than helpful"

Treatment Received: Gastric Bypass
I have visited David Schroeder on several occasions with the view to changing an unsuccessful gastric band, not inserted by him, I will add, to a Gastric by Pass. I have found him very knowledgeable and happy to answer at length all my questions. His staff have also been more than helpful and have put me at ease at each visit.

I chose this clinic as I researched and found this clinic to be professional and the information on their website was extensive.

Dr David Schroeder

Job Title:
  Surgeon
Biography:
An experienced laparoscopic abdominal surgeon who has been performing obesity surgery in the Waikato area for 18 years. He pioneered laparoscopic obesity surgery in New Zealand, introducing the gastric band in 1996, and performing the first laparoscopic gastric bypass in New Zealand in 2000. He has performed over 1800 primary and revisional obesity operations. He is a member of several international obesity surgery societies, and is constantly updating surgical techniques and auditing outcomes. As a result, he has developed a keen interest in the role of the brain in getting the best results after surgery on the stomach. This is reflected in the team he has chosen to help patients achieve their goals. David is currently on the executive committee of the Obesity Surgery Society of Australia and New Zealand.

Dr Rowan French

Job Title:
  Surgeon
Biography:
Gastrointestinal and endocrine surgeon with a strong interest in metabolic surgery, including both under-nutrition and over-nutrition. He is a member of many general and obesity surgical societies. He is committed to the treatment of patients at both ends of the nutritional scale. His bariatric work with patients suffering from obesity is curiously balanced by his role as clinical leader of the Advanced Nutrition Support Team at Waikato Hospital that deals with severely malnourished patients. His preferred bariatric procedures are the adjustable gastric band and the sleeve gastrectomy.
