"I wanted a skilled surgeon and he nailed it"
5 50Reviewed 16 Aug 2017 Review verified by phone and email.
Treatment Received: Gastric Bypass
Saw Dr. Braun for a mini gastric bypass with minimiser ring. I have lost 90kg in 9 months. He is European heritage so seems very blunt, but I didn't want a warm and fluffy buddy, I wanted a skilled surgeon that could do my surgery safely and confidently. He nailed it. The more I see him and his team, the warmer and fluffier he gets. The 12-month support program is a pleasure to deal with all of my food issues to ensure I get the most out of my surgery. Would definitely recommend Dr. Braun to others.

"I ended up having to have surgery to remove my gall bladder"
4 50Reviewed 01 Apr 2016 Review verified by phone.
Treatment Received: Gallbladder Removal
I suffered from severe gall bladder inflammation and took myself to Holy Spirit Northside Private Emergency. I was subsequently admitted to Holy Spirit Northside with a severe inflammation of my gall bladder. I was placed in Dr Will Braun's care.

I ended up having to have surgery to remove my gall bladder.

I was not able to see Dr Braun before surgery, which was some 12 hours after admission.
I met Dr Braun immediately prior to surgery and we talked through my diagnosis, treatment options and risks, I felt comfortable to go ahead with the surgery.
Dr Braun saw me this morning after my surgery last night, he told me what happened and answered my questions.

I reckon he's a good surgeon and a good guy. I'd see him again if I needed surgery.

Bariatric Surgery, Emergency Medicine, Gastroenterology, General Surgery
  English, German, Russian
General Surgeon with sub-specialty training in Advanced Laparoscopic Upper & Lower Gastro-Intestinal & Metabolic & Hernia surgery. He underwent his advanced training in surgery in Sydney, and had further 2 years of post fellowship training in his areas of interest under the guidance of leading Australian and overseas surgeons. Having had a large experience in laparoscopic gastric banding & sleeve gastrectomy, Dr Braun had further training in the USA to learn laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery from the pioneers of this approach. Renowned for surgical precision, attention to detail, and strict post-operative management, Dr. Braun’s mission is to deliver high standard surgical care. He is dedicated and committed to provide timely and quality surgical services to his patients. Dr Braun chose to become a weight loss specialist after witnessing the profound positive impact metabolic surgery can have on a patient’s health and quality of life. Where as conventional medical care tends to focus on treating the consequences of obesity, such as diabetes, heart disease, and joint degeneration, bariatric surgery treats the cause of these and many other common medical problems in a powerful and efficient way. Weight loss surgery is the only treatment that can put type 2 diabetes into remission, alleviate sleep apnoea, and improve fertility. It is wonderful to assist patients toward a happier, healthier and brighter future. Dr Braun is a member of the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity (IFSO), the Obesity Surgery Society of Australia and New Zealand (OSSANZ), the Australian and New Zealand Gastric and Oesophageal Surgeons Association (ANZGOSA), and the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES).

Dr Jason Wong  FRACS, MBChB, BSc, PGDipSurgAnat.

Specialist Laparoscopic General and Bariatric Surgeon

Dr Wong is a specialist laparoscopic and bariatric surgeon, well noted for his very pleasant bedside manner, clear communication and dedication towards his patients.  He will always go the extra-mile to ensure all patients feel well cared for.  He has a holistic patient centred approach, and his care for his patients extends well beyond just performing their surgery.
Dr Wong completed his Medical School through Otago University, New Zealand in 2007.

His aptitude for surgery was recognised early on whilst he was just a first year intern, and he was accepted for advanced training in General Surgery the following year in 2009 – a rare feat given the competitive nature of entry to surgical training.
He completed General Surgery training in 2014 having worked at various hospitals around New Zealand under many respected surgeons.

During his training he was awarded The John McCall Medal at Auckland City Hospital for the best registrar, and a Lorenzo Capussotti Award and Travelling Fellowship from IASGO to present research on oesophageal cancer in Vienna.

In 2015, Dr Wong undertook further sub-specialist training in Oesophagogastric and Bariatric Surgery at Auckland City Hospital, where he was also the Chief Surgical Resident and a Clinical Lecturer in Surgery at Auckland University.  He also worked to develop safer working conditions for junior doctors after-hours on the wards, and was part of a working group to develop Venous Thromboembolism guidelines.

He moved to Brisbane in 2016, working as the inaugural Fellow in General Surgery at Redcliffe Hospital, further honing his techniques in endoscopy, laparoscopic hernia, anti-reflux, bariatric, colonic and emergency surgery.

He has a particular interest in gallbladder surgery, with expertise in performing the most difficult emergency gallbladder surgeries through keyhole surgery.
In addition to working at Lap Surgery Brisbane, Dr Wong is also employed as a Staff Specialist in General Surgery at Redcliffe Hospital, performing both surgery and endoscopy. He is also the Director of Surgical Training at Redcliffe Hospital maintaining an active role in teaching junior doctors, students, and developing hospital pathways to improve clinical care and processes.

He is pleased to join the team at Weight and Metabolic Solutions Australia.
