About Acupuncture Tao Dao

Gill Hack

Acupuncture

Gill is the founder of Acupuncture Tao Dao (formerly Tao Dao Complementary Health Clinic in London N6). She trained in London at LCTA (London College of Traditional Acupuncture) and China (Hangzhou). Gill taught for many years in the Student Clinic at LCTA

and now teaches at the City College of Acupuncture.

Her training in complementary medicine began in 1989 and she is fully qualified in shiatsu, remedial and sports massage, aromatherapy and reiki. Greatly influenced by her mentor Dr Wu, a specialist at the teaching hospital in Hangzhou, China, she has developed her own style of practice combining acupuncture with energy healing.

Acupuncture

is an ancient medical system which has been practised in China and other Eastern countries for thousands of years.

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine

Qi

(or vital energy) circulates through a series of invisible channels beneath the skin. Qi consists of equal and opposite qualities –

Yin and Yang

– and when these become unbalanced, the flow of Qi is disrupted and over time, ill health may occur. The flow of Qi can be disturbed by factors such as emotional states, poor nutrition, stimulants, weather conditions, hereditary factors, infections, toxins and trauma.

Acupuncture involves the gentle insertion of

very fine needles

in key areas along the channels (acupuncture points) to stimulate and balance Qi in order to restore health. Taking into account a wide range of signs and symptoms (including tongue and pulse diagnosis) the aim is to identify a pattern which points to

an underlying imbalance that can be corrected by safe and effective treatment.

Today, acupuncture is used extensively in state hospitals in China alongside Western medicine and is now

available on the NHS and in GP practices in the UK.

Often described as a means of pain relief, acupuncture is in fact used to assist people with a wide range of health issues, including:

It may be possible to improve the symptoms of

other conditions

and it is always worth enquiring about any particular problem you may have.

Meditation and Mindfulness Teaching

Gill is a Mindfulness Meditation Teacher (Zenways, London) and has been practising meditation since 1989 when she first began training in complementary medicine.

Her passion for meditation was sparked during a trip to the Himalayas when she spent some time living amongst Buddhist monks in a Tibetan monastery.

During the course of her acupuncture studies, she went on to develop her meditation practice in various parts of the world including China, Sri Lanka, India, America, Europe and the UK.

She has extensive teaching experience with both adults (acupuncture) and children/young people (theatre).
