Sean Barkes Clinical Director

Biography:
MBAcC, BA(Hons), BSc.(Hons) TCM Ac., Clin. Ac. (China) Sean's interest in Chinese Medicine started with an interest in Martial Arts in 1985. In the Orient, martial arts and healing arts are often learned together. In 1995, after training in oriental medicine whilst living in Japan, Sean returned to England to complete a degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine at the University of Westminster in London. After this, he completed a post-graduate internship at various hospitals in Hangzhou, China. Whilst in China, Sean also trained in Tuina, a Traditional Chinese form of massage. In order to add to his skills, he subsequently studied Chinese patent herbal medicine, again at the University of Westminster, with one of the country's leading Chinese herbalists. Sean has taught Chinese remedial and therapeutic exercise (Chi Kung) and T'ai Chi Chuan since 1995.

Nadine Hatton Acupuncturist

Biography:
MBAcC, BSc.(Hons) TCM Ac. Nadine qualified from the University of Salford with a degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine (Acupuncture), and joined our clinic in May 2006, offering late afternoon and evening clinics for patients who are unable to arrange appointments during the day. Nadine has a particular interest in Facial Revitalisation Acupuncture, and completed post-graduate training in this field with one of the world's leading experts in the summer of 2008. She will be offering this type of treatment at the clinic later in the year. In 2009 Nadine is hoping to expand on her training by completing specialist training in Paediatric Acupuncture.

Vimala Prabha Acupuncturist

Biography:
MBAcC, Dip. Ac., BSc.(Hons) Vimala joined our clinic in October 2007 after having completed his studies at the Northern College of Acupuncture in York. Originally from Altrincham, near Manchester, Vimala's background is in teaching and practising Buddhism and meditation (he adopted his Buddhist name as a commitment to the Buddhist teachings). He first gained a degree in Astrophysics, before re-training as an Acupuncturist to further his knowledge of health from an Eastern perspective. Vimala offers Saturdays among his clinic days, as well as some mornings and afternoons/evenings, and has a particular interest in sports injuries and other musculoskeletal complaints such as Arthritis, but like all of our therapists, is able to treat a wide range of conditions using the same generic TCM diagnostic framework.

Kirstie Smith Acupuncturist

Biography:
MBAcC, BSc.(Hons) Ac. Kirstie joined our team as an Acupuncturist in 2008, though she was no stranger to the clinic, having completed 3 years of clinical observation with us as part of her degree course at the University of Lincoln. Kirstie is from a small village outside of Lincoln and came to Acupuncture initially as a patient, before choosing to leave her job as Nanny to study TCM full-time. She enjoys spending time with her family and dog, and nights out with friends and colleagues. Kirstie is looking forward immensely to working with our current and future patients.

Jan Taylor Acupuncturist

Biography:
MBAcC, BA(Hons), MBA, BSc.(Hons) Ac. Jan graduated with a First Class Honours Degree in Acupuncture from Lincoln University, and joined the clinic in 2008. She has been interested in alternative therapies for many years, having trained in Neuro-Linguistic Programming and done counselling courses in her original role as a senior HR manager. As a patient experiencing acupuncture, she became a convert to such an extent that she left the corporate world and changed her life completely. Jan is no stranger to the clinic, having regularly observed over her three years of study. Moving to Lincoln in 2001 from the Isle of Man, she has lived and worked throughout the UK and now enjoys the benefits of living in such a beautiful city. She practices T’ai Chi and Chi Kung, and is especially interested in women’s’ health, especially the menopause.
