Chinese Medicine Theory states that there are a number of organ systems within the human body which need to interact in harmony with each other and the outside environment in order to maintain physical balance, and that loss of this harmony results in illness. It also finds that there are channels related to these organ systems running throughout the body. The insertion of needles in certain points along these energy channels help restore balance between the organ systems and bring about good health. A series of weekly treatments is normally required to allow the body to return to the harmony needed for good health. Less serious conditions will require a shorter treatment term, with longer term treatment usually needed for more chronic conditions.

Dervla Sheehy Acupuncture - Acupuncture Clinic in Ireland

Dervla Sheehy Acupuncture

The Elysium Sanctuary, 50 Sandycove Road, Sandycove, Co Dublin
Rating from 2 Reviews This is the first treatment I have tried which has had such a good effect on this conditionEllie, UK, 24 Jun 18

I visited Dervla for relief from a long-term eczema condition and to see if acupuncture could alleviate menopausal symptoms. After my first treatment, the areas of eczema diminished and my menopausal symptoms eased. My eczema patches shrank, were less angry looking and I felt less irritation. I was sleeping through the night and experienced fewer hot flushes during the daytime. As my treatments progressed my eczema kept on improving. This is the first treatment I have tried which has had such a good effect on this condition. I chose this clinic by happenstance as it was local to me and I am so pleased I did. Dervla took great care to look after me and get to the root of the problem. The sessions were relaxing, I left feeling calm and positive. I would definitely recommend Dervla.

The nature of Acupuncture and TCM allows it to treat a wide variety of conditions; however, it is generally used as the treatment of choice for sprains and strains, allergies, poor digestion, menstrual problems, menopause, headaches, neck and back pain, fatigue, stress, and other minor and self-limiting illnesses. Acupuncture can also be used to promote general well-being and as a preventative method to illness. It can increase energy, motivation and uplift spirits by relaxing the mind and body. I have listed the most common ailments treated by acupuncture. This is not the exhausted list so please do contact the clinic to discuss your ailment in detail and how you can benefit from a course of treatments.

Increase Fertility with Acupuncture. There are many reasons why couples have difficulty conceiving - irregular menstruation, hormone imbalance, cold uterus, low sperm count to name a few. Whatever the reason infertility can be a major cause of stress and hopelessness in otherwise healthy couples. Acupuncture combined with herbal medicine has been used for centuries to treat the causes of infertility. Acupuncture in particular has been known to dramatically increase fertility by regulating the menstrual cycle in females and invigorating and increasing sperm count in males. A German Study conducted in 2002 used two groups of woman experiencing fertility difficulties, to determine the effects of acupuncture on IVF treatments. In the first group acupuncture treatments were carried out 25 minutes before embryo transfer and 25 minutes after the embryo was inserted into the uterus. In the second group no acupuncture treatments were given. Study findings showed a successful pregnancy rate of 42.5% in the first group of woman compared to 26.3% in the second group that had no acupuncture treatments. This highlighted a significant difference of 16.2% between the two groups of woman. In each Care Cure clinic we look for the underlying problem of disharmony which is preventing conception. Treatments for fertility difficulties and male impotency usually include acupuncture, acupressure, moxibustion and herbal medicines.
Acupressure €10 - €40
Acupressure is a good alternative for anyone suffering from a phobia of needles as it follows the same principle as acupuncture. It works by stimulating the same acupuncture points on the surface of the body but instead of using needles, the practitioner will apply pressure with the hands. Acupressure is an effective method of improving blood circulation and repairing tissue damage throughout the body. Via nerve stimulation acupressure can induce relaxation and improve skin tone, ease tension in muscles and joints, repair facial lymph damage and generally tone the body. For this reason it is often used as a facial beauty therapy. Acupressure has also seen considerable success in curing insomnia, lessening fatigue and dispelling back and joint pain.

Acupuncturist Consultation €85 - €150
Benefit from an acupuncturist with over eight years clinical experience and who has completed post-graduate certification in the 6th Peoples hospital Shanghai.  Specialising in reproductive health and general health complaints relating to fertility and pregnancy.  Initial consultation-€150 for 90 minutes, including the first acupuncture treatment.  Follow-up sessions-€85 for 55 minutes A minimum of 4 sessions are recommended for IVF/ICSI cycles to improve the chances of implantation.
Fertility Acupuncture €85 - €150
Treatment sessions are available for those who are trying to conceive naturally or via assisted reproduction methods.  Underlying gynaecological conditions, as well as other health conditions (e.g. immune, digestion) will be addressed during the session.  IVF/ICSI cycles- for those who are undergoing a fertility treatment cycle, it is recommended that women attend for acupuncture 3-4 months in advance of the treatment. Men may also benefit from treatment, particularly if the sperm parameters have been affected by inflammation in the testes or immune issues.  Treatment sessions are normally every 1-2 weeks, although it is recommended that treatments take place weekly from one month prior to the planned IVF/ICSI cycle.  During an IVF/ICSI cycle, research has shown that women benefit most from the following treatment schedule;  One treatment during down-regulation, another during stimulation phase, pre & post embryo transfer treatments and a final session during the two-week wait.  The scientific evidence is most compelling for acupuncture administered immediately prior to & post embryo transfer. Research has indicated that implantation success rates increase by 40-62% on any given cycle if a specific, fertility acupuncture treatment is availed of.
Electro-Acupuncture €85 - €150
Electro-acupuncture has particular application in the area of fertility and also musculo-skeletal complaints.  Within reproductive health, electro-acupuncture is used to improve blood circulation to the ovaries and uterus, with the aim of improving egg quality and the endometrial lining. It also enhances the action of the acupuncture points themselves, to ensure optimal results for the patient.  Electro-acupuncture is extremely effective for the induction of labour. Treatments may begin from 38 weeks gestation to prepare the body for labour, e.g. balancing hormones, encouraging the cervix to efface and the uterus to contract regularly. I.e. braxton hicks Most women who are over-due (i.e. 40 weeks or over) will spontaneously begin labour either during the session or within 48 hours of their electro-acupuncture treatment. In some cases, follow-up sessions are required, but 3 sessions is usually the maximum that would be required.  Artificial induction is associated with a far higher rate of medical interventions in labour, due to the sudden and rapid onset of intense contractions via medication. This risk is minimised when labour occurs naturally, particularly with the assistance of acupuncture as this helps the body to produce its own pain-relieving endorphins.  For follow-up induction treatments that need to run over time to 1.5 or 2 hours, the initial fee of €150 will apply. This typically occurs where the uterus is slow to respond and the woman wishes to persist with the treatment until the contractions are well-established.
