Treatment by acupuncture involves thin, sterile needles being inserted into the skin at specific points on the body, which help to encourage the body's own healing response. Acupuncture is a holistic therapy, therefore many aspects are taken into account before reaching a diagnosis, such as diet, lifestyle and medical history. As such, advice in these areas will be given alongside a physical treatment. Palpation of the pulse and observation of the tongue are also used in diagnosis.
