About Ballsbridge Physiotherapy

Ballsbridge Physiotherapy Clinic was first established in 1984, one of the first private physiotherapy clinics in Dublin.  From the outset the aim of the clinic has been to have a patient-centred and evidence-based approach, at the core of service delivery. Following assessment and diagnosis, treatment is individually prescribed to address patient needs and includes:

  • Specific treatment modalities
  • Exercise prescription
  • Education
  • Self-management techniques

We have a strong commitment to continuing professional development and at all times adhere to the clinical guidance and advisories of the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists, the World Confederation of Physical Therapists, and the Health Service Executive.

All major health insurers reimburse for physiotherapy treatment without referral from a doctor or consultant.  Additional reimbursement is also available from the Revenue Commissioners by completing a MED 1 form.

Both Aileen MaGuire and Niamh Wynne are accredited physiotherapists with The Irish Life Back Up  programme  (formerly Aviva). Check with Irish Life Health to see if this direct payment option is available to you.

The extensive list of services we provide is as diverse as core strengthening classes to physiotherapy for bladder and bowel problems.

Ms Aileen MaGuire

Job Title:
  Physiotherapist
Languages:
  English
Biography:

Aileen graduated in 1989 from Trinity College Dublin. She initially worked within the health service in both Ireland and Australia. In 1994 she commenced working in private practice and joined the clinic in Wellington Rd in 2000 and is the practice owner. She currently works one day a week as a Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist (Msk) in the Mater University Hospital in the musculoskeletal and continence services.

Aileen has extensive clinical experience in the management of musculo-skeletal problems and has worked with national and international athletes within sports as diverse as rugby, GAA and mountain climbing. In the musculoskeletal field Aileen’s particular interest is in lower limb injuries and biomechanics (probably because she has incurred a fair few herself!!). She has extensive experience in orthotics prescription and treats “the feet” in the practice.

In 2002 she completed a post-registration course in Women’s Health and since has run the bowel and bladder continence service in the clinic. Pelvic girdle pain in pregnancy is a particular area of interest. For many years this was a musculoskeletal problem often relegated to “normal” in pregnancy. Combining her musculoskeletal skills and additional knowledge in the management of continence gives Aileen a unique perspective in the treatment of this patient group.
