About Avant Sports Shoulder and Elbow Surgery Clinic - Mount Elizabeth Novena Specialist

We provide consultations at clinics in Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre, Parkway East Medical Centre and Mount Elizabeth Novena Specialist Centre in Singapore. The Centre aims to provide easy access to quality care for athletes at all levels and for any patient who wants to return to his own level of activity.

The clinic offers diagnosis and treatment of general orthopaedic injuries, arthritis, total joint replacement, sports medicine and osteoporosis.

Our main interest is the treatment of sports injuries especially of the knee, shoulder, elbow, ankle and hip.

The clinic provides care for both the physical and emotional welfare of our patients through a quality team of health care professionals. Rehabilitation is an important part of our comprehensive approach to quality care for the injured. As such we work closely with the physiotherapists at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Gleneagles Hospital and Parkway East Hospital to ensure that our patients return rapidly to their previous level of activity.

He is a fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon with a subspecialty interest in shoulder, knee and arthroscopic sports surgery. He was then awarded the Tan Tock Seng Scholarship to pursue a Sports Fellowship in Knee Surgery at Hospital Quiron in Barcelona, Spain under the supervision of Professor Ramon Cugat, who is a consultant for the Spanish soccer players. As part of this training, Dr Ramesh also spent time with the Mutualidad de Futbolistas Catalanes orthopaedic teams taking care of the soccer players in Barcelona and the Spanish province of Catalunya. He also completed a Fellowship in Shoulder Surgery at Hospital Del Mar in Barcelona. During his overseas fellowship training, Dr Ramesh was trained in arthroscopic joint reconstruction and joint replacement surgeries. Dr Jeffrey Chew Tec Hock

Biography:
He is a practicing consultant orthopaedic surgeon at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital and Parkway East Hospital. He graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1989 and completed his postgraduate degree in 1994. His current sub-specialty interests are in hip and knee joint replacements as well as the treatment of arthritis. Dr Chew is one of the largest users of the robot in robotic joint replacement (MAKOplasty) in the ASEAN region. He also treats sports injuries around the hip and the knee. Dr Chew received the Russell Hibbs award from the Scoliosis Research Society as well as several scholarships to conduct biomechanics research at the Mayo Clinic Biomechanics Laboratory studying patello femoral tracking on various knee designs. He is a graduate of the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine, Adult Reconstructive Division, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota where he studied joint replacement surgery. Dr Chew is also a member of the following international societies: American Orthopaedic Research Society American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons Arthroscopy Association of North America European Society of Sport and Knee Surgery Fellow of the International College of Surgeons

Dr Yegappan Muthukaruppan

He graduated from the National University of Singapore School of Medicine in 1992 and is currently a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon practicing at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital and Parkway East Hospital, Singapore. He is a specialist in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine and does mainly arthroscopic reconstructive surgery of the knee and shoulder. He completed his orthopaedic training in Singapore and did his sports medicine fellowship in the Methodist Sports Medicine Centre in Indianapolis, USA, from 2002 to 2003. His sub-specialty interest is in the management of cartilage lesions in the knee and ankle. Dr Yegappan has treated cartilage defects with both the first and second generation techniques of chondrocycte implantation. In addition, he also has a special interest in the management of multiple ligament injuries of the knee dislocations. Currently he is an instructor for the ISAKOS basic and advanced arthroscopic workshops in Singapore and the ASEAN region. He has travelled extensively in the ASEAN region to teach and perform live surgery.
