Dr. Ashutosh Purushottam Mavalankar, a highly competent and experienced surgeon of eminence with extensive training in the renowned centers of UK, USA and Canada, has more than 20 years of vast experience in total joint replacement of knee and hip joints. He has treated more than 5000 patients from India and other parts of the world with excellent long term results.
Careful selection of the patients, exhaustive preoperative preparation and counseling, perfect execution of surgery, excellent post-operative care and maintaining continuous rapport with the patients, have contributed to his commendable success rate and highest patient satisfaction.
Over and above standard knee and hip replacement operations, Dr. Mavalankar has performed scores of complex primary knee and hip replacement operations including those with severe deformities, high-flexion knee joint replacement and total knee replacement following upper tibial osteotomy.
Dr. Mavalankar graduated from NHL Municipal Medical College, Ahmedabad, India in 1984 and undertook his basic and higher surgical training from V.S. Group of Hospitals in Ahmedabad. He then proceeded to England and obtained advanced training in orthopaedic and joint replacement surgery at Bristol Royal Infirmary and other hospitals in the southwest of England in the Overseas Doctors Training Scheme (ODTS) of the Royal College of Surgeons of England from 1989 to 1993.
During his stay in England, Dr. Mavalankar worked as Senior Registrar for 1 year at Bristol Royal Infirmary and Winford Orthopaedic Hospital, Bristol. Working with some of the eminent joint replacement surgeons of England, he obtained huge experience in primary and revision hip and knee replacements. Later, he undertook fellowships in joint replacement surgery and arthroscopic surgery at Hospital for Special Surgery, New York; Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston; Sunnybrook Medical Centre, Toronto, Canada and BG Unfallklinik, Tubingen, Germany.
Ever since his return to India in 1994, Dr. Mavalankar has been practicing as a Joint Replacement Surgeon and specialist in knee surgery.
Dr. Mavalankar holds Master of Surgery certificate in Orthopaedic surgery as well as certificate of advanced training under the ODTS of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, London.
During his illustrious career, Dr. Mavalankar has continued to pursue his interest in clinical research. He has presented his research work in many national and international conferences and medical journals. His research article on Deep Vein Thrombosis in Indian patients published in the Indian Journal of Orthopaedics in 2007 was very widely acclaimed. He has also presented papers in many national and international conferences including presentation made at the Royal College of Surgeons of England, London. He regularly attends conferences, both national and international, to keep him updated so as to provide world-class care to his patients.
