Massage Therapy

Aromatherapy Massage (1 hour)

Aromatherapy is a holistic therapy that treats the mind, body and spirit. When essential oils are applied to the body during a massage, the essential oils enter the skin through the hair follicles where they are absorbed in to the blood stream and circulated around the body.

Aromatherapy has many benefits to the person being treated and can:

  • Enhance mood and general feeling of well-being through massage and the use of essential oils.
  • Improve blood and lymphatic circulation through massage and the use of essential oils. Depending upon the essential oils used the blood vessels will either constrict or dilate thereby raising or lowering blood pressure.
  • Balance the hormone production by the endocrine system. Essential oils such as clary sage can mimic oestrogen.
  • Strengthen the immune system by helping to kill viruses, bacteria and fungal infections.
  • Reduce pain.
  • Encourage restful sleep.
  • Improve digestion.

Baby Massage

Massage can get your newborn to sleep better, improve her health, and even help you bond.

"When you give your baby a massage, you're actually stimulating her central nervous system," explains Tiffany Field, PhD, director of the Touch Research Institute at the University of Miami School of Medicine. "That sets off a chain reaction: It makes her brain produce more serotonin, a feel-good chemical, and less cortisol, a hormone that's secreted in response to stress. As a result, your baby's heart rate and breathing slow down, and she becomes more relaxed. "

Deep Tissue Massage (1 hour)

Four Hands Massage

The four handed massage or abhyanga comes from the Ayurvedic tradtion,  incorporating the skills of two therapists who work in synchrony to perform this full body massage. By working both sides of the body simultaneously, this treatment is the ultimate in balancing the body’s flow of energy promoting deep relaxation for the body, mind and spirit. When two therapists work together your mind reacts differently, giving up control. This is especially effective for anyone who has a hard time truly letting go during treatments. Therapists use a variety of massage techniques, aromatherapy infused hot towels and warmed herbal oils to help make this a massage you won’t forget. Our therapists can tailor the session to meet the needs of the client such as more focus on the back or legs. This 60 minute experience starts with 50 minutes of massage on the body and finishes with the last 10 minutes on the head, neck, shoulders and the feet being worked simultaneously.

MLD - Manual Lymphatic Drainage

Because it is a very light massage, utilizing repetitive and continuous hand movements, it has a calming effect on the autonomic nervous system which Vodder explains as "a change from a sympathetic state to a parasympathetic state" stressing the importance of the lightness of touch so as not to trigger a release of histamines in the tissue which would otherwise overstimulate. The effect is to induce a state of deep relaxation in the body allowing even the walls of vessels and bowels to be relaxed. For this reason, MLD is an excellent therapy for sufferers of hypertension.[2]

Neck and Shoulder Massage

A shoulder massage is one of the best possible methods of curing pain in the shoulders. It not only helps in pain relief, but also restores complete motion in the affected shoulder. Shoulder massage provides deep relaxation to the stressed shoulder muscles, stimulates the flow of blood, and improves the functioning of the lymph system. Shoulder massage is a natural analgesic because it stimulates the release of endorphins. In addition, it is an excellent stress buster and can make you feel relaxed and recharged.

Swedish Massage

Swedish massage therapy is the modality that comes to mind when most people think about massage. As the best-known type of bodywork performed today, one of the primary goals of the Swedish massage technique is to relax the entire body. This is accomplished by rubbing the muscles with long gliding strokes in the direction of blood returning to the heart. But Swedish massage therapy goes beyond relaxation. Swedish massage is exceptionally beneficial for increasing the level of oxygen in the blood, decreasing muscle toxins, improving circulation and flexibility while easing tension.
