About One 2 One Physiotherapy and Sports Injury Clinic

Personal, professional and effective physiotherapy services are provided to patients by chartered physiotherapist Mr. Brian Strain. The clinic is located in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Treatments are provided for a wide range of conditions. Conditions treated at the clinic are sports injuries, back and neck pain, sciatica, whiplash, spondylitis, headaches, repetitive strain injuries, arthritis, post operative and post fracture rehabilitation and joint conditions. A thorough assessment is performed at the first visit. Referrals are welcome from the GPs of patients. Treatments are then performed at the two well equipped treatment rooms in the clinic.

Mr Brian Strain

Biography:
Chartered PhysiotherapistBrian Strain previously worked for ten years as a Private Practitioner at the Arches Physiotherapy and Sports Injury Clinic (Holywood Road), and spent six years as a Junior and Senior Physiotherapist at the Royal Victoria Hospital, following graduation in 1987. He also worked part-time in a G.P. Fundholding Practice, and completed the McKenzie Institute Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy course. He passed the Membership Examination for the Society of Orthopaedic Medicine in 1995 and maintains regular continuing professional development through relevant courses and membership of the Organisation of Chartered Physiotherapists in Private Practice (OCPPP) the British Association of Sport and Exercise Medicine (BASEM) and the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Sports Medicine (ACPSM). In relation to the treatment of sports injuries he has worked in the past with amateur, professional and international players from the field of rugby, soccer, boxing, GAA, athletics, tennis, golf and equestrian. He has also worked with local and visiting danceand drama companies. In the past he worked as a team Physiotherapist at the World Student Games in Sheffield and Buffalo, and the Special Olympics in Ireland. He has been a professional footballer in the Irish League for the past seventeen years, playing with Glentoran, Portadown, Lisbum Distillery and currently Bangor. In view of this he has a good understanding of the types of injuries sustained by sports people and the importance of early, effective treatment and rehabilitation.

Ms GILLIAN CLARKE

Biography:
Gillian qualified from University of Ulster in 1995 with an Honours degree in Physiotherapy.

She spent 7 years gaining work experience in various settings in the NHS at the City and Royal Hospitals in Belfast before moving to England.

In the south of England she gained musculoskeletal, orthopaedic and sports injury experience working in private practices, private hospitals and rehabilitation units for the emergency services. She returned home last year and continues to further her knowledge with regular post graduate courses and continued learning.  (Gillian will be training in the Sarah Keys technique from November).

Gillian is involved with special interest groups for acupuncture (AACP),  occupational health and ergonomics (ACPOHE) and is trained in modified pilates.

She takes one to one sessions  and runs pilates classes for spinal problems, general injuries and ante / post natal clients. She also treats ladies with pregnancy and post natal musculoskeletal problems.

Gillian is also part of the physio team for Belfast Harlequins rugby teams and is keen to promote function,normal movement and return to health by appropriate manual techniques and rehabilitation programmes.

Ms Rosie Cowan

Biography:
One 2 One-based massage therapist, Rosie Cowan, specialises in pain relief, injury rehabilitation, pregnancy massage, and helping clients deal with stress. 

Massage can ease backache, sciatica, frozen shoulder and repetitive strain, as well as shortening recovery time from sports training and injuries. It can also combat migraine, tension headaches, insomnia and anxiety, while boosting health and wellbeing. The benefits of pregnancy massage include calming the baby, lowering the expectant mothers blood pressure, soothing backache and reducing fluid retention. 
Rosie, who trained and previously worked in London, also delivers corporate on-site massage, and stress management lectures and workshops. 

In the past two years, she has provided massage therapy to actors and crew of two major Hollywood films made in Belfast - City of Ember, with Bill Murray and Tim Robbins, and Fifty Dead Men Walking, starring Sir Ben Kingsley.

Mr Martin Clenaghan

Biography:
BSc (Hons) MCSP Martin also graduated from the University of Ulster, Jordanstown. Since qualifying he has been in full time employment at the Mater Hospital Belfast, and later as a senior physiotherapist in Lagan Valley Hospital, before moving into full time private practice in 2007. Martin has extensive sports injury experience. He was physio to the Armagh Senior Gaelic football squad from 2005-2007, and also worked with the Irish International Rules squad in 2006.

Fergal Leonard

Biography:
BSc (Hons) MCSP After graduating from UUJ in June 2000 Fergal spent 2 years rotating through the different specialities in the Ulster Hospital Dundonald. He then spent some time in Australia where he worked in a private practice in Sydney and St. Vincent's private orthopaedic hospital. On his return he took up a position in N+W Belfast HSS Trust as a senior physiotherapist in Musculoskeletal outpatients. He has worked in "One 2 One" for the past two years and is also team physiotherapist for the Antrim Hurling team and Cooke Rugby football club. Fergal is a qualified Acupuncturist and is a member of the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists as well as the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Sports Medicine through which he maintains regular professional development.
